Project Standard Specifications: Conveyors in Sugar Factory

1. Objective: The objective of this document is to establish the standard

specifications for the design, fabrication, installation, testing, and maintenance
of conveyors in a sugar factory. Properly designed and maintained conveyors
are essential for the efficient and safe transportation of raw materials and
finished products within the facility.

2. Applicability: These specifications apply to all types of conveyors used in

the sugar factory, including but not limited to belt conveyors, screw conveyors,
drag conveyors, and bucket elevators.

3. Codes and Standards: All conveyor systems shall comply with the latest
edition of the following codes and standards:

 Conveyor Equipment Manufacturers Association (CEMA) standards

 Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations
 American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) B20.1 - Safety
Standard for Conveyors and Related Equipment
 National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 70 - National Electrical Code

4. Design and Engineering: 4.1 Conveyors shall be designed in accordance

with industry standards and the specific requirements of the sugar factory. 4.2
Structural components, bearings, motors, and gearboxes shall be selected to
ensure reliable and efficient operation. 4.3 The design shall consider factors
such as material characteristics, conveyor speed, capacity, and environmental
conditions.

5. Materials: 5.1 Structural Materials: - All structural components shall be made

of corrosion-resistant materials suitable for the operating environment. 5.2
Conveyor Belt: - Conveyor belts shall be selected based on the material being
conveyed, with proper consideration for strength, flexibility, and resistance to
wear and abrasion.

6. Installation: 6.1 Installation shall be carried out by qualified personnel in

accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations and applicable
standards. 6.2 Adequate safety guards shall be installed to prevent access to
moving parts. 6.3 Conveyors shall be aligned and leveled to ensure proper
tracking and minimal wear.

7. Safety Features: 7.1 Emergency stop buttons and pull cords shall be
installed at appropriate intervals along the conveyor. 7.2 Guards and covers
shall be provided to protect personnel from moving parts. 7.3 Conveyors shall
be equipped with warning signs indicating potential hazards.

8. Electrical Systems: 8.1 Electrical components shall comply with NFPA 70 and
local electrical codes. 8.2 Wiring and connections shall be properly insulated
and protected against moisture and physical damage. 8.3 Emergency shutdown
systems shall be in place to disconnect power in case of a malfunction.

9. Testing and Commissioning: 9.1 Conveyors shall undergo thorough testing

before commissioning to ensure proper functioning and safety. 9.2 Load testing
shall be conducted to verify the conveyor's capacity and performance.

10. Maintenance: 10.1 A routine maintenance schedule shall be established,

including inspections, lubrication, and adjustments. 10.2 Maintenance
personnel shall be adequately trained to perform routine checks and repairs.

11. Documentation: 11.1 As-built drawings and specifications shall be

provided upon completion of the installation. 11.2 Operation and maintenance
manuals for each conveyor system shall be supplied by the manufacturer and
kept on-site.

12. Compliance: All conveyor systems and installations shall comply with the
specified standards and codes. Non-compliance shall be rectified before
commissioning.

13. Revision Control: This document is subject to periodic review and revision.
All revisions shall be documented, and the latest version shall be used for
ongoing and future projects.

These specifications are intended to provide comprehensive guidelines for the

design, installation, and maintenance of conveyors in the sugar factory.
Adherence to these standards is crucial to ensure the reliability, safety, and
efficiency of material handling operations within the facility.
