Safety instructions concerning the use
of the tool ecaDIAG
The use of the MecaDiag tool is reserved exclusively for maintenance personnel with
the relevant training provided by Mecalac or a Mecalac-approved training provider.
In order to avoid accident risks, before connecting the tool to the machine’s diagnostic socket,
the maintenance technician must:
Park the machine on level ground.
Remove any tools mounted on the quick coupler.
Extend the attachment and leave it resting on the ground.

Downloading
Before carrying out any downloading:
Park the machine on level ground.
Remove the tool from the quick coupler.
Rest the attachment on the ground.

WARNING
Downloading the incorrect software can cause the tool or the oscillating axle to unlock or can
activate a function when switching on the ignition of the machine.
It is strictly forbidden to download the software of another machine model.
The downloading of any software must only be carried out as part of a change of control unit or an
update recommended by Mecalac.
After any downloading, the technician must test all machine functions before releasing the machine
to the driver.

Remote coding
After any remote coding, the technician must test all machine functions
before releasing the machine to the driver.
Warning! An incorrect remote coding of the quick coupler can activate
the unlocking.

Settings
After introducing any settings, the technician must test all machine functions
before releasing the machine to the driver.

Learning mode
After any learning routine, the technician must test all machine functions
before releasing the machine to the driver.

Actuator test
Before testing any actuator, the attachment must be extended and left to rest on the ground.
After starting the machine, the technician must test all machine functions before releasing
the machine to the driver.

Changing a control unit


Before changing one or several control units:
Park the machine on level ground.
Remove any tools mounted on the quick coupler.
Extend the attachment and leave it resting on the ground.
In the event of changing one or several control units, before starting the machine there must
be a check done to ensure any on-board software corresponds correctly to the machine and
the remote coding corresponds to the options fitted to the machine.

01 PC Software Installation and Use

Starten des CD-ROMS


DO NOT CONNECT TO PC, the tool Mecadiag Pocket before the installation of the PC program.
Double click on file MecadiagPC_Setup.exe to start the PC program installation.

LOADING of MECADIAG PC program


Make a double click on icon of tool Mecadiag called
« MecaDiagPC_Setup ».

Choose the language in the rolling


menu with French by default.

Here the welcome window from the
installation program. Click on « Next »
(« Suivant ») button.

The program offers an installation


repertory.
Push on button « Next » (« Suivant »),
otherwise click on button « Browser »
(« Parcourir ») to choose another
repertory.

The program offers an installation in


the menu « Start » (« Démarrer »).
Click on button « Next » (« Suivant »)
otherwise click on button « Browser »
(« Parcourir ») to choose another menu.

of an icon on the desk.
Click on button « Next » (« Suivant »)
or otherwise click in the case
corresponding to « Icon on desk »

to activate the installation process
of MecadiagPC program.

Click on button « Terminate »
(« Terminer ») to go on.

Confirmation of the authorization for


information exchange on the net with the
Mecalac server.
Click on « Yes » (« Oui ») otherwise on
button « No » (« Non ») and the program
stops

VERY IMPORTANT :
If your PC is connected to a
company intranet network with a
PROXY, it is mandatory to click
on « Yes » button to introduce the
parameters of the proxy. If not click
on button « No ».

NOTE :
If you have clicked on « No » despite
that you have a proxy, the MecadiagPC
will not be able to get the updates from
internet, and you will imperatively have
to click on the menu « Configuration ».

If you have clicked on « Yes » to the
question « Configure a proxy server »
(« Configurer un serveur proxy »), you
have to click in the square « Use the
system configuration » (« Utiliser la
configuration du système ») to cancel it.

Than introduce the informations of your


server proxy and user.
The informations hereunder are given
as an example.
You have to get the real informations from
the IS manager of your company.

Once your have filled the three fields, you


will have to close the window by clicking
on the red square on top right side of the
window configuration of proxy.

In the case where the user does not have


a proxy server, he will have to click on
square « Use the system configuration »
(« Utiliser la configuration du système »)
not to take this particularity in account.

Than you will have to close the window by


clicking on the red square on top right side
of the proxy configuration window.

Than the program can reach to internet
and get the last version updated of
embarked program in MecaDiag tool and
the program MecaDiagPC.

Click on « Yes » (« Oui ») to authorize


the download of the updates available
on the server.

In the menu « Options / updates »


(« Options / Mise à Jour ») (also available
with short Ctrl + U), there is an access to
the window « Updates » (« Mise à jour »)
hereunder for:
1. Restart the updates check, with a click on
one of both buttons « Updates check »
(« Vérifier les mises à jour »)
(from the program MecaDiagPC) or « Check
the updates of MecaDiag pocket »
(« Vérifier les mises à jour de MecaDiag
Pocket ») (from tool).
2. Select preferences to activate or cancel
the automatic updates by clicking on the two
respective squares.
Than click on button « Close » (« Fermer »)
with the red cross down on the right side.

After the click on one of both buttons


« Check the updates » (« Vérifier les
mises à jour ») (from MecaDiagPC
program) or « Check the updates of
MecaDiag Pocket » (« Vérifier les
mises à jour de MecaDiag Pocket ») if
no update is available, a click is needed
on « OK » to close hereunder window.

At the first installation of the program

MecaDiagPC on a computer, this window
comes on to declare the identity of the user
of the program.
This window may be opened with the menu
« Options / preferences » or with the
shortcut Ctrl + P to update the customers
data like a change in the address,
telephone, or logo for instance.
One click thumb index « New customer »
(« Nouveau Client ») shows the customer
list already available on the server which
permits to install the program several times
in a same company.
When the user a new customer is, he has
to fill the fields hereunder up than click on
button « Save » (« Enregistrer »).

When the customer already exists because


he has several PC, he will only have to
recover it in the roll menu to avoid to fill up
again all the fields.

It is possible to add the logo of the


company by a click on register icon on top
left side.

The logo in « .jpg » format has to be


selected in the corresponding record
of the PC.
Otherwise it is the register « my pictures »
which opens.
After having opened the correct picture by
clicking on « Open » (« Ouvrir »), you have
to click on « Register » (« Enregistrer »)
that the customer card with the logo will be
saved on the MecaDiag server.
Than click on red square on top right
side to close the window.

Connection of MECADIAG POCKET to PC

Connection of MECADIAG tool on one of


the USB ports of the PC with delivered
cable.
The new material is detected and window
hereunder comes on.

After the selection of « No not that


time » (« Non, pas cette fois »)
click on button « Next »
(« Suivant »).

Accept the choice « Download program


automatically » (« Installer le logiciel
automatiquement »),
than click on button « Next » (« Suivant »).

If Vista presents this alert window : answer
« Install the driver even » (« Installer ce
pilote quand même »).

Click on button «Terminate »


(« Terminer ») to finalize the installation
of the MecaDiag driver.

This message on the bottom right side of


the screen confirms that the procedure
succeeded.
If not, you will have to start an up date procedure
of the driver in the menu « configuration panel » /
« device manager » / « Exxotest ».
(« Panneau de configuration » / « Système » /
« Gestionnaire des périphériques » /
« Exxotest »).

Affectation of the tool MECADIAG POCKET

The field « Documentation » will permit


in the future an access to the information
transmitted by Mecalac to the dealer net.
These documents will be at the format .pdf.

When connected to the PC, the tool


MecaDiag Pocket is associated to the first
customer who will recognize the new tool.

The yellow triangle « caution »


(« attention ») on the tool means that it is
not updated and that a update process has
to be started (see next page).

REMARK :
This tool « MecaDiag Pocket » may be than
plugged to the PC program from another
customer to make an update of embarked
program, but it will appear as not belonging
to that customer.

To update a tool « MecaDiag Pocket » it has


to be connected to the PC, that it shows a
black screen with the message
« Connected » (« Connecté ») in white at
the bottom of the screen.
Than click RIGHT on the number of the tool
to make appear « Update the tool »
(« Mettre à jour l’outil ») to launch the load
process of the program embarked in the tool.
The update of the tool can also be launched
from the roll menu « MecaDiagPC/update
tool » (« MecaDiagPC /
Mettre à jour l’outil »).

During the updating of the tool « MecaDiag


Pocket », a blue bar on the bottom of the
page shows the progression of the new
program load.

NOTE :
During the update of the tool « MecaDiag
Pocket » ist display gets black and it shows
« loader » on the bottom right side.

At the end of the update process if it has
succeeded :
The dialog box hereunder will appear, and
a click on « OK » will allow to close it.

The small green balls show that an update


is available on the PC.
There is a green ball for the MecadiagPC
program and a green ball for the embarked
MecaDiag Pocket program.

NOTE :
On the picture below there is only on green
ball showed.

In de case of failure of the update process


of embarked tool because of a current cut of
the tool MecaDiag Pocket when the display
was black with « loader », the standard
update of the tool may not work.
In this very particular case, it is possible
to use the control from the menu
« MecaDiagPC/ update the firmware of
every MecaDiag Pocket » (« MecaDiagPC
/ Mettre à jour le firmware de tous les
MecaDiag Pocket ») which will apply to the
MecaDiag Pocket plugged to the PC, or to
the whole MecaDiag Pockets if several tools
are simultaneously connected to the PC
which is possible.

Pocket MecaDiag Characteristics

This tool matches the needs of the servicemen


in charge of the Mecalac machines.

The tool must be able to be used simply and


user-friendly by the whole after sales network.
Adapted for a use on the field or in a workshop,
without hard drive, it offers a great impact resistance.
It allows a complete diagnosis and updating
of computers, being simply connected to the
diagnosis plug of the machine. Light and compact
it requires neither a pile nor a battery.
Its refined interface and intuitive menu allows an ultra fast handling.
Finally, with the relevant help menu it becomes the indispensable
companion of the serviceman.
The tool is associated with a software running on a computer allowing it to
update itself via the Internet while backing up information to the technical
department.

- ABS housing with protection sock.
- External dimensions 200 x 95 x 47 mm.
- ¼ VGA graphic display with backlight (256 colors including 16 for the MMI).
- User interface with keyboard and thumbwheel navigation.
- USB communication port for use with a PC computer.
- 1 Cable 1,5 m long connection to the diagnostic connector of the machine.
(Cable used for communication and power).
- 2 ports for voltage measurement on the board (function «voltmeter»).

Specifications
- Supply directly through the diagnosis connection to the machine.
- Voltage Range: 7V to 36V.
- Average consumption: <200mA / 12V & <150 mA / 24V
(without connection of optional sensor).
- Use temperature: -20 ° C to +70 ° C.

Function «Voltmeter»
The reference voltage (ground vehicle battery) is directly taken at the diagnostic
connector of the machine.
The operator works easily:
- The controller in one hand, the probe in the other.
- Voltage Range: 0V - 36V / 250mV Accuracy (-20 ° C & 70).
- Display Min., Max. and average.
- Graphic Display «Trace».
- Possibility to improve the accuracy to + / - 30 mV (between 18 & 28 ° C) or + / -100 mV
(-20 & 70 ° C) with the use of the 2nd socket (V2) to take a more precise ground than
the one of the power supply of the tool.
