Midterm Online Examinations, Spring 2021 Semester
Undergraduate, Electrical Engineering

Course Name: Antenna and wave propagation Date of Examination: 21 April 2021_____

Course Code: EE 562 ____ ______ ___ Total Marks: 30__ _________

Exam 2 hours_________ Teacher Name: Dr. Sohail Khalid__

Duration:

_____________________________________________________________________________________
Instructions: Please read the below instruction before attempting the exam questions.

1- The exam is an open book. Students can get help from books and lecture notes.
2- Please write your full name, SAP ID, page number, and signature on top of each answer sheet.
3- Please use good quality paper.
4- Attempt all questions; marks and CLOs of each question are duly mentioned.
5- For student’s queries, the course teacher will be available from 9:00 am to 09:30 am.
6- After completing the exam, please scan or take a good quality photograph of each answer sheet
and convert it to PDF file in the correct ascending order. Save the PDF file using your name and
SAP-ID. e.g., (Muhammad Ali 122121). Please make sure the converted PDF must be readable.
7- If necessary, use online software to reduce the PDF file size. (https://smallpdf.com/compress-pdf)
8- Upload PDF file on Moellim before the end time. For students having low internet speed, please
start uploading well before the end time.
9- The hardcopy of answer sheets must be retained by students until the announcement of results.
10- Faculty have formed a zero-tolerance policy about cheating in examinations. Therefore,
based on your exam answers sheets, if the teacher found any student involved in copying from
peers will have an online viva session with the course teacher or get zero marks.

Q1. A resonant, lossless half-wavelength dipole antenna, having a directivity of 2.156 dB,
has an input impedance of 73 ohms and is connected to a lossless, 50 ohms transmission
line. A wave, having the same polarization as the antenna, is incident upon the antenna
with a power density of ((SAP-ID)x0.02) W/m2 at a frequency of 10 MHz. Find the
received power available at the end of the transmission line. (10 Marks)

Q2. Find the effective area of following antennas (10 Marks)

(a) Half wave dipole antenna with centre frequency ((SAP-ID)x0.002) GHz.
(b) Quarter-wave monopole antenna is operating at ((SAP-ID)x0.01) MHz.

(c) Infinitesimal dipole antenna with bandwidth (((SAP-ID)x0.02) MHz to ((SAP-ID)x0.04)
MHz).

Q3. A base-station cellular communication system utilizes arrays of λ/2 dipoles as

transmitting and receiving antennas. Assuming that each element is lossless and that the
input power to each of the λ/2 dipoles is 1 watt, determine at (((SAP-ID)x0.05) MHz and
a distance of 5 km the maximum
(a) Radiation intensity (Specify also the units).
(b) Radiation density (in watts/m2)
for each λ/2 dipole. (10 Marks)
