Mentor for Organic Farming and Livestock

1. Volunteer Program Description


We are looking for volunteer mentor for organic farming and livestock to mentor farmers in
the farm. The mentor will be developing work plan in farming, manage farmers assignments
and encourage them to have a better quality of harvest and investment on livestocks. The
mentor will help significantly the farmers in the farm throughout the new learning process.
Our farmers is not yet knowledgeable in organic farming. Volunteering to mentor farmers
improves knowledge in organic farming, enables farmers to enhance the way of growing
vegetables, decreases frustration, helps farmers to have greater opportunity of a higher
income, improves their self-esteem when it comes to taking care of vegetables, builds
relationships among co-farmers, and not be underestimated by their own community.
● the mentor will share their knowledge to farmers on how to make organic fertilizers
● the mentor will share farmers updated learnings on organic farming
● the mentor will teach farmers on how to grow effectively the vegetables in the farm
● the mentor will share knowledge to farmers on how to avoid insects and pests that damages
the plants
● the mentor will help farmers on taking the best care for livestock animals
● the mentor will teach farmers with dos and dont’s in farming and livestocking
● the mentor will share his/her best and effective ways in planning planting vegetables and
investing on livestocks.

This allows you to interact with farmers, and local communities, learn the local culture, tour the
best tourist attractions in leyte, and experience the ambiance of the community and hospitable
people of the place.

2. Typical day for a volunteer


On your arrival day
While at your host family, you will be assigned a mentor who will help you on daily basis.
You will be briefed on the following areas
➢ the project
➢ local cultures
➢ banks
➢ shops
➢ religions
➢ recreational areas
➢ historical sites
➢ tour sites
➢ protected areas
➢ schedule
➢ others
On your second day
Your second day is your orientation day. You will be introduced to and greet farmers, and
people in the community. Also, it’s your day of selecting your topic to prepare schemes to
mentor farmers for four days.
On your third day
Your third day is your day of mentoring. also, it’s good to start mentoring when you find
yourself well prepared. Your fourth day and onwards will be like your third day.
Weekends/holidays
Weekends and holidays are free days. You will choose to go to cultural centers, banks,
shops, religious sites, recreation sites, historical sites, tour sites, beaches, and others of your
choice. Also, you will get 3-7 days off to go for a tour.
Monday to Friday schedule
Mentoring begins from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM
Break: 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM
Lunch: 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM
Break: 03:00 PM to next day

3. Accommodation

Homestay the accommodation is a homestay. the room for three persons with a personal
bed, bedsheets, pillow, carpet, chair, table, 24/7 wi-fi, electric fan, electricity, and toilet.

The volunteers may share a sitting room, and laundry machine, and may prepare meals of
their choice. The kitchen has a gas supply, cooker, and cooking utensils.

You will be living with a host family and become part of a family member. You will learn
about unique cultures that are totally different from what you know from your own country
and cook local meals. If you want to enjoy and find everything so good, easy, and rewarding
you need to master two principles below

Food at the accommodation
Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are prepared and served by the host family. All people
assemble in a sitting room to eat.

You choose to eat/drink coffee at 6:00 AM and 3:00 PM but optional. Your breakfast is a
mixture of snacks, fruits, chicken adobo, fried egg, kinilaw, and sinigang.

Your lunch is a mixture of meat, fish, sweet potato, chiken tinola, caldereta, bicol express,
grilled bangus, chop suey,sisig, and pancit palabok.

Your dinner is like your lunch but different from the variety you ate at lunch.

Volunteers are free to organize their births at host family. Notify host family to help you
organize your birthday and other celebrations. It’s optional.
