 STANDARD OPTICAL COMPARATOR CHARTS
Glass Charts
Visual Inspection Products, Inc. uses satin ground glass of superior quality for all our glass charts.
The images are very durable and will last for many years with proper care. Glass charts should be
cleaned
ONLY with a mild soap and water solution using a soft cotton cloth. Window cleaners, thinners, and
alcohol should never be used to clean your glass chart. All glass charts are traceable to the N.I.S.T.
and are available with certification at no extra cost.

Glass charts are typically required when:

• The existing chart has been severely chipped or broken.
• The lines on the existing screen have faded or worn off.
• The new chart will remain in the comparator for an extended period of time.

Overlay Charts
Overlay charts are made of plastic and are placed over the existing glass screen. They are typically
required when charts are interchanged on a frequent basis. Visual Inspection Products, Inc. offers 4
types of plastic overlay material:
• .007” thick clear photograph
• .007” thick matte photograph
• .050” thick clear vinyl
• .050” thick matte vinyl

Scales
Visual Inspection Products, Inc. offers 3 types of scales:
• Inch/decimal
• Decimal/metric
• Multi-magnification
The inch/decimal and decimal/metric scales are available in glass and are useful for sight
verification.

The multi-magnification scales are useful for direct screen measurements of projected images on a
comparator that is not equipped with either digital readouts or micrometer readers. These scales are
available in glass or .050” thick vinyl.

All scales are traceable to the N.I.S.T. Certification sheets specifying traceability are available at no
extra cost. Glass scales are available with serialized numbers.

All scales are intended for sight verification and not for comparator calibration.

 CUSTOM COMPARATOR CHARTS
In addition to standard comparator charts, Visual Inspection Products, Inc.
has been manufacturing custom charts for over 35 years. We pride ourselves
in the ability to provide custom charts of any nature, regardless of complexity
or size.

Charts are designed on a CAD system from your drawings, plotted on

precision machines, and reproduced on the same materials available for our
standard charts.

If you design your own charts but lack reproduction facilities, Visual
Inspection Products, Inc. can process your CAD data and provide you with
finished charts at a significant reduction is cost. Data can be sent via mail or
modem. Call for more information.

Custom comparator charts are also traceable to the N.I.S.T. Certification

sheets specifying traceability are available upon request at no additional cost.

SIGHT GAGING
Visual Inspection Products, Inc. also specializes in sight gages for inspection of
oversize parts with large tolerances such as gaskets.

As with custom comparator charts, sight gages are designed on a CAD system
from your drawings and etched on thick plastic by precision plotting machines.
Plastic thickness ranges from 1/8” to 1/2”, depending on the size of the part.

Sight gages typically show min/max part profiles with fixed steel pins at datum
locations. Visual Inspection Products, Inc. can design any gage to your exact
specifications.

If your part is already designed on a CAD system, Visual Inspection Products,

Inc. can produce the sight gage from your CAD data at a significant reduction
in cost.
