Borazole
Borazole
Borazole
Chemical properties:
1.Addition reactions: one molecule of borazine adds 3 molecules of HCl or HBr in cold
without a catalyst. These molecules gets attached with all the three B atoms of borazine
, since B-N or B=N bonds and hydrogen chloride derivative is obtained . This addition
reaction is not shown by benzene.
2.Hydrolysis : Borazine gets slowly hydrolysed by water to prouce boric acid, ammonia
and hydrogen.hydrolysis is favoured by the increase in temperature
3.pyrolysis: when borazine is pyrolysed above 340 degree C, B6N6H10 and B5N5H8 are
produced . These products are boron-nitrogen analogues of diphenyl and
napthalene respectively.
4.Formation of adduct: borazine forms adduct with CH3OH. This adduct undergoes
pyrolysis with elimunation of H2 and gives B-trimethoxy borazine.
5. Reaction with aniline: Borazine undergoes a strong exothermic reaction
with aniline to produce tri-aminoborine
phosphazenes
Preparation:
uses
• Phosphazene derivatives are used as fire retardants
• Some phosphazene derivatives act as catalysts in organic synthesis
• Phosphazene compounds find application as additives in the
production of flame resistant polymer plastics
• Some phosphazene compounds are employed as lubricants and
lubricant additives
• Phosphazene derivatives can function as corrosion inhibitors,
protecting metal surface from corrosion.
S4N4 ( tetrasulphur tetranitride)
It is a inorganic compound with formula S4N4 . It was first
prepared by M.Gregory in the year 1835.it gas a complex
cradle like structure (derivative of 8-membered ring) with
alternating S and N atoms.
In the S4N4 ring, te sulphur and nitrogen atoms are interconnected by single
covalent bonds . Each sulphur atom is bonded to two nitrogen atom and one
other sulphur atom. Similarly each nitrogen atom is covalantly bonded to two
sulphur atom and one other nitrogen atom . This structure contributes to the
compounds physical and chemical properties including stability and reactivity in
various reactions
prepration
1. Tetra sulpur tetra nitrude can ce prepared through the reaction of sulphur
dichloride(S2Cl2) with ammonia (NH3) the reaction can be represented as
follows
S2Cl2 +4NH3 S4N4 + 2NH3
