Gunjan: "Did you know that improper disposal of industrial waste leads to the

contamination of our water sources?"

Joanna: "Yes, and it's not only that, but excessive use of chemical fertilizers in
agriculture also plays a significant role."
Ishan: "Absolutely! And these contaminants can easily find their way into our
drinking water, causing severe health issues."

Gunjan :
 What is contamination?
 Contamination means unwanted entry of disease causing germs to enter
in water.
 Water gets contaminated by the following:
 Discarding of untreated sewage into water bodies like lakes
and rivers
2. Practice of bathing and washing near ponds, lakes or rivers
 The practice of cremating dead bodies near river banks
4. Oil spills
 5. Dumping of chemical and agricultural waste into water
Krisha:
Pollutants from agriculture greatly affect water quality and can be
found in lakes, rivers, wetlands, estuaries, and groundwater.
Pollutants from farming include sediments, nutrients, pathogens,
pesticides, metals, and salts. Animal agriculture has an outsized
impact on pollutants that enter the environment.
If adequately treated and safely applied, however, wastewater can be
a valuable source of both water and nutrients and thereby contribute
to food security and livelihood improvement.

Ishan :
Let's begin by understanding the different types of waterborne
diseases that can result from this contamination. Cholera, a bacterial
infection, is one of the most common diseases caused by consuming
contaminated water or food. It leads to severe diarrhea and can be
life-threatening if not treated promptly.
A person can get cholera by drinking water or eating food
contaminated with cholera bacteria. In an epidemic, the source of the
contamination is usually the feces of an infected person that
contaminates water or food. The disease can spread rapidly in areas
with inadequate treatment of sewage and drinking water.

Akhilesh:

Moving on to dysentery, an inflammation of the intestines caused by

parasites or bacteria, we recognize the need for improved sanitation
systems to combat its spread. Dysentery can lead to dehydration,
bloody diarrhea, and even death if left untreated. Let us unite in
advocating for better hygiene practices, clean water access, and
education on proper waste disposal.
It can occur due to infectious germs, parasites, and irritation of the
gut from chemicals. The most common type of infection dysentery
is bacillary dysentery or shigellosis. This type is due to infection with
the Shigella bacteria. Another main type of dysentery is amebic
dysentery or amebiasis.

Devang:

Amoebic dysentery, caused by a single-celled parasite found in

contaminated water and food, poses a significant threat to
communities lacking basic sanitation infrastructure. This disease
brings to light the dire consequences of inadequate resources and
emphasizes the urgency of investing in sustainable solutions.
amoebic dysentery is caused by the protozoan
parasite Entamoeba histolytica. Invasive intestinal parasitic infection
can result in symptoms of fulminant dysenteries, such as fever, chills,
bloody or mucous diarrhoea, and abdominal discomfort.

Joanna:

Hepatitis, a viral infection that primarily affects the liver, has different
types (A, B, C, etc.) and can lead to chronic conditions if left
untreated.
Hepatitis can be caused by:
 Immune cells in the body attacking the liver.
 Infections from viruses (such as hepatitis A, hepatitis B, or hepatitis
C), bacteria, or parasites.
 Liver damage from alcohol or poison.
 Medicines, such as an overdose of acetaminophen.
 Fatty liver.

Now we will ask you all a few questions

Quiz Question: What is the main cause of cholera?

Question: What are the three waterborne diseases discussed today?

Question: One prevention of Hepatitis vaccine?

Question: Two forms of Dysentery?

Devang: WoW we learned a lot today. But how to prevent waterborne diseases?

Krisha : We could start by educating ourselves and others
about water conservation and the importance of clean
water. We can also support local initiatives and
organizations working to improve water quality.
Akhilesh : that's a proactive approach. Let's do our part to
make sure clean drinking water is accessible to everyone

Everyone together : Thankyou
