General InbvductEon

1 GENERAL
1.1 INTRODUCTION
This manual describes the Commander T105 Telephone System, and provides installation and
maintenance information.

The Commander T105 is a telephone intercom system with a capacity of one exchange line, five
Telephone Stations and a Door Station. Each Telephone Station may be either a standard Telephone
Station, a e-Line Station, or a Handsfree Station. Any of the Telephone Stations may have one or
several Station Amplifiers connected. In addition to full exchange access, the system offers intercom
facilities, loudspeaker paging, on-hook monitoring, music on hold, a Door Station with chime, a Room
Monitor, a Special (2-Wire) Telephone and standard access barring and classification control facilities.

Section 1 of this manual provides general information which is common to both installation and
maintenance staff who will be working with the T105 system. All other matters relating to installation
and maintenance of the T105 system are contained in Sections 2 and 3, respectively.
The Supplement section provides information on installation, maintenance and operational detail for
the later options of 2-Line Station, Handsfree Station and Station Amplifier on the T105 system.
The Appendix provides information to assist in ordering installation and maintenance components for
the T105 system.

1.2 WARNINGS
The following precautions must be observed when working on the system.
1. The T105 is a four wire telephone system. One pair is used for speech, the second for power and data,
hence it is imperative that the system is wired with the correct polarities. Check all wiring before initially
applying power to the system.

2. Take special care not to short between any terminals. This may cause damage to the system.

3. Handling of Printed Board Assemblies (PBAs):

This equipment contains static sensitive components, and caution in handling is advised. To reduce the
incidence of premature failure due to static discharge or physical damage, the following precautions
MUST be taken:
a. Always ensure that power is disconnected before removing/inserting PBAs.
b. Always discharge static from yourself by touching the Main Equipment frame before handling
PBAs.
C. Handle PBAs by the edge or by the handle. Do NOT handle PBA tracks, components or edge
connectors (contaminants introduced by fingers can cause corrosion and high resistance connec-
tions).
d. Components are physically delicate. Finger pressure on a component can fracture, but not
necessarily break component leads, producing a future fault.
e. To protect against physical damage and damage due to static discharge, PBAs must ALWAYS
be wrapped in the original wrapping (an ANTISTATIC plastic bag), and then placed in the protec-
tive container provided with the new item.

NOTE: These procedures apply equally to both working and faulty PBAs. Careless handling,
storage and transporting will cause secondary or future faults.

General Capacity and Station Configuration

1.3 CAPACITY and STATION CONFIGURATION

The Commander T105 system has the capacity for one exchange line only.
The station configuration of the system is shown in Fig. 1 .l . All stations are connected in a star con-
figuration from the Main Equipment with the Power Supply Module fitted in the Main Equipment.
Up to five Telephone Stations can be connected as extensions 1 to 5. Alternatively, extension 4 can be
a Room Monitor Station. A Special (2-wire) Telephone can be provided in lieu of Telephone Station 5.
The Telephone Stations may be a combination of standard Telephone Stations, 2-Line Stations and
Handsfree Stations.
Station Amplifiers may be provided in parallel to the Telephone Stations or in lieu of a Telephone
Station.
A Dwr Station can also be connected as extension 6. There are three models of Door Station from
which customers may choose: one surface mounted and two flush mounted models.
No other configuration of Telephone Stations, Room Monitor Station, Special (e-wire) Telephone or
Door Station is possible for the system.
For any T105 system, the telephones (Telephone Stations and Special Telephone) must all be either
decadic or VF.

1.6.1 MAIN EQUIPMENT

Ring Assignment Switches
Each of the five Ring Assignment Switches may be set as required by the customer to enable or silence
the audible exchange ringing signal at each telephone station.
lf a Special (2-wire) Telephone is installed instead of Telephone Station 5, then Ring Assignment
Switch No. 5 controls the Special Telephone.
The operation of the Ring Assignment Switches does not affect the visual ringing indications at
Telephone Stations.

Fixed Access Barring

Outgoing exchange line access may be barred to Telephone Stations 2,3 and 5, or the Special (2-wire)
Telephone at the time of installation, by internal microswitch settings.
All extensions will have outgoing exchange line access during power failure.

Key Controlled Classification Change

The Classification Change keylock may be fitted as an option to the Main Equipment. It allows key con-
trolled classification change (trunk barring) of the exchange line.

1.6.2 TELEPHONE STATION

Note: On a T105 Telephone Station the LINE, S and INTERCOM keys may be preselected, i.e. pressed
just before lifting the handset to implement the function.

Answering an Exchange Line Call

To signal an incoming call, the LINE lamp flashes rapidly at all telephone stations, and exchange ring-
ing signal is heard.
Note that the audible ringing signal at a Telephone Station may be disabled if either:
- the appropriate RING ASSIGNMENT SWITCH is set OFF at the Main Equipment; or
- the CALL volume control is set to zero at the Telephone Station.
To answer a call:
. Lift the handset at any station, and press the LINE key.
The LINE lamp will come ON steadily at all stations.
The call is now available at the answering Telephone Station.
. To disconnect, replace the handset.
The LINE lamp will go OFF after a short time, and the line will be released.
The volume of the exchange ringing signal at the Telephone Station may be adjusted by the CALL
volume control.

Holding an Exchange Line Call

An exchange line call may be placed On Hold while internal enquiries are made.
While On Hold, the outside caller cannot hear internal conversations (if the Music On Hold feature is
equipped, the caller will hear an electronic tune).
To place a call On Hold:
. Advise the caller that call is being placed On Hold.
. Press the INTERCOM key.
The LINE lamp will flash slowly.
Internal enquiries or intercom calls may now be made.
. To return to the caller, press the LINE key.
The LINE lamp will come ON steadily.

ISSUE 4
General Operating Insbucrions

The progress of the call will be audible on the station speaker. The volume may be adjusted by the
MONITOR volume control.
When the call is answered:
. Lift the handset (speaker switched off).
. Press the MON key again to release it.
The MON lamp will go OFF.
. Proceed with the conversation.
If the call is unanswered, pressing the MON key again will release the line.
The On-Hook Dialling operates identically for Individual Intercom Calls also.
Note: If the MON key is not released, then call cannot be terminated.

Placing an Intercom Call

An Intercom Call to any Telephone Station may be one of the following 3 types:
- an individual Intercom Call (signalled by intercom ringing signal at the called Telephone Sta-
tion); or
- an Individual Call Page (signalled by the caller’s voice at the called Telephone Station); or
- an All Call Page (signalled by the caller’s voice at all Telephone Stations).

Notes: The following notes apply to all three types of intercom calls.
- Intercom ringing signal or voice page will sound at the called station, even if the called party is
engaged on an exchange call.
- The volume of an intercom signal may be adjusted by the CALL volume control.
- When the called party answers, a normal handset to handset call may proceed.
- There is only one intercom path in the system so individual intercom calls are not secret.
- Intercom page or tone signalling will not operate if any other Telephone Station is off-hook (or
with MON key depressed) but not engaged on an exchange call. In this case the calling party
will be connected directly to the “off-hook” party on the common intercom link.
- A 3 minute timeout applies for signalling intercom calls. The “time-out” alarm sounds at the
calling telephone station if the call is not answered. For page calls the timing commences
from when the INTERCOM key is released. For an individual call, if a party other than the call-
ed party responds and a conversation continues (over ring tone for a individual ring signalled
call), the “time-out” alarm activates at the calling telephone station.

Individual Intercom Call

. Lift the handset.
. Momentarily press the INTERCOM key.
. Dial the required station (by pressing “1” or “2” or “3” etc).

-
Individual Call Paging
. Lift the handset.
. Momentarily press the INTERCOM key.
. Dial the required station (by pressing “1” or “2” or “3” etc).
. After the first burst of ring tone, hold the INTERCOM key depressed and speak into the handset.
The caller’s voice will be heard from the called station speaker.

All Call Paging

To make a voice page to all Telephone Stations:
. Lift the handset.
. Hold the INTERCOM key depressed while speaking into the handset.
The voice page will be heard via the speakers at all other T105 Telephone Stations. Any number of
Telephone Stations may respond by lifting their handsets to converse in an intercom mode.

Answering an Intercom Call

If the called station is free, an intercom call (signalled either by intercom ringing signal or voice) is
answered by lifting the handset.
If the called station is engaged in an exchange line call, an incoming intercom call is still announced,
either by the ringing signal or voice in which case the called station may answer the intercom call after
placing the exchange line call On Hold.

Calling the Special Telephone

To call the Special (2-wire) Telephone from a T105 Telephone Station:
. Lift the handset.
. Press the S key.
If the Special Telephone is not busy, ring tone will be heard at the Telephone Station and the
Special Telephone ringer will sound. If not answered within 3 minutes the “timeout” alarm will
be activated at the calling telephone station.
Note: If the Special Telephone is busy, no sound will be heard at the calling station.

Internal Conference
Once an intercom call has been established between any two Telephone Stations, people at
other stations may enter the conversation simply by lifting their handsets.
During an Internal Conference, incoming exchange line calls are announced by exchange ring-
ing signal, and visually by the LINE lamp (flashing rapidly) at all stations.
The station which accepts an incoming exchange line call is automatically excluded from the
conference, and the conversation on the exchange line remains private.
Note: If two Telephone Stations are off-hook, no other extensions can be signalled. For this
reason, an Internal Conference should first be announced by an All Call Page, advising all con-
cerned parties to lift their handsets.
The Special Telephone may also be included in an Internal Conference, but only if it is one of the
first two stations entering the conference.

Do-Not-Disturb
When a Telephone Station is in the Do-Not-Disturb mode, all incoming audible signalling (i.e.
ringing, voice paging, door chime and alarms) is stopped.
To set a Telephone Station to Do-Not-Disturb:
. Set the CALL volume control to the extreme left.
While in this mode, visual indication of the exchange line status is still given by the LINE lamp.
No signal is given to the other stations to indicate whether a Telephone Station is in Do-Not-
Disturb mode or unattended.

PBX Recall
If the T105 system is connected as a PBX extension, PBX recall may be effected by pressing the
LINE key.

Transferring an Exchange Line Call to another Telephone Station

An exchange line call may be transferred from one telephone station to another. This may be ar-
ranged either:
- vocally; or
- by an Intercom Call;

Vocal Transfer
. Place the call On Hold.
. Inform the called party that a call is waiting.
When the called party presses the LINE key, the call will be transferred to that Telephone Station.
. Replace the handset.

Intercom Call Transfer

. Place the call On Hold.
. Make an Intercom Call to the called party (Either all call page, individual page or individual tone
ringing).
. The line will be automatically put On Hold.
When the called party presses the LINE key, the call will be transferred to that Telephone Station.
. Replace the handset.
When transferring a call, indication that the call has been accepted by another station is given by the
LINE lamp changing from flashing slowly (while On Hold) to being ON steadily.

Transferring an Exchange Line Call to the Special Telephone

At the Telephone Station:
. Press the S key.

l-10 T105
ISSUE 4
General Operating lnsbuctbns

The call will be placed On Hold, and ringing signal will sound at the Special Telephone.
When the Special Telephone answers and is advised of the transfer:
. Replace the handset.
The call will be transferred.
Note that exchange line calls cannot be transferred from the Special Telephone to a T105 Telephone
Station.

Unsuccessful Transfer
. If the called party cannot accept the call, return to the outside caller by pressing the LINE key.

Exchange Conference (Secrecy Release)

To convene an Exchange Conference (if this feature has been programmed on installation):
. Answer the call at Telephone Station 1.
. Ask the caller to wait while the other parties are informed.
. Advise the other parties either vocally or by an Individual Intercom Call, to enter the conference
after the LINE lamp stops flashing.
(The LINE lamp will be slowly flashing with the caller On Hold).
. Return to the caller by pressing the LINE key.
. Each other party joins the conference by pressing his LINE key after his LINE lamp has stopped
flashing.
Once the Exchange Conference has been convened, Telephone Station 1 may withdraw.
Note: The Special Telephone cannot be included in an Exchange Conference.

Access Barring
All dialled calls may be barred by an Access Barring Keylock fitted to the Telephone Station.
Note: With the keylock closed, the only possible outgoing call is an All Call Page. Incoming calls are not
affected.

Alarm Signals
The “off-hook” and “on-hold” alarms as detailed below are 600 Hz tones with cadence of 0.5s
ON /0.5s OFF and 1 s ON/ 1 s OFF respectively.

W-Hook Alarm
A Telephone Station left off-hook prevents any other station signalling an internal call, necessitating the
need for an “off-hook” alarm.
The off-hook alarm sounds at the Telephone Station when:
- a Telephone Station is left off-hook for more than 30 seconds and not initiating or receiving an
intercom call or engaged on an exchange call.
- an intercom call is being signalled and not answered within 3 minutes.
- a door station call is not terminated within 3 minutes.
This alarm will not sound when a station handset is being used for room monitoring, or when more than
one handset is off-hook and engaged on an intercom call.
The Off-Hook Alarm will be overridden by any of the following tone signals:
- incoming exchange line call; or
- door chime signal; or
- On Hold Alarm.
. To stop the Off-Hook Alarm, replace the handset.

On Hold Alarm
To avoid the possibility of an exchange line being left on-ho1 ’ nit&, an On Hold Alarm is
generated. If a Telephone Station holds the exchange line an goes on-hook, after 3 minutes an On
Hold Alarm sounds at all Telephone Stations. r
If the call is left on hold for a further 3 minutes, then the call will be terminated and the On Hold Alarm
will cease.
. To stop the On Hold Alarm, retrieve the call from hold by pressing the LINE Key at any Telephone
Station.
Note: If any station is off-hook then the alarm will not sound (until all stations are on-hook) but the timing
will continue and the call will be terminated 6 minutes after the holding station went on-hook.

1.6.3 SPECIAL (2-wire) TELEPHONE

General Description
A e-wire telephone interface provides the option of connecting a 2-wire telephone circuit to the system.
This telephone displaces Telephone Station 5 in the system configuration. To the user it appears not as
extension 5, but rather as extension “S”, denoting Special Telephone.
The Special (2-wire) Telephone may be a Telecom premium or feature telephone, a permitted attach-
ment, a 2-line telephone, or a remote extension. It is accessed with the “S” Key from any Telephone
Station.
The Special (2-wire) Telephone has most T105 facilities, with the following limitations:
- no hold of exchange line calls (and hence no enquiry calls);
- no transfer of exchange line calls from the Special Telephone;
- no door chime signalling or access to the Door Station;
- no facility for receiving page announcements; and
- no facility for initiating Individual Call Page announcements.

Answering an Exchange Line Call at the Special Telephone

If the RING ASSIGNMENT SWITCH corresponding to the Special Telephone (i.e. switch 5) is in the ON
position, incoming calls will cause ringing signal to sound at the Special Telephone.
Calls may be answered at the Special Telephone by lifting the handset.

Placing an Exchange Line Call from the Special Telephone

. Lift the handset.
. Dial “7”.
If the exchange line is available for dialling, dial tone will be heard and the LINE lamp will come ON at all
T105 Telephone Stations.
. Dial the call as usual.
. Replace the handset to disconnect.
If the exchange line is in use, busy tone will be heard after the “7” is dialled.
Note: Busy tone will also be heard if any T105 Telephone Station is off-hook (e.g. engaged in an inter-
com conversation), even though the exchange line may be free. This condition may be checked by
depressing (for approximately one second) and releasing (i.e. flashing) the Special Telephone switch-
hook. If the exchange line is free, dial tone will then be heard and the call may proceed.
Placing an Intercom Call from the Special Telephone
. Lift the handset.
. Dial the required Telephone Station (by dialling “1” or “2” or “3” etc).
The Intercom call proceeds as a normal Individual Intercom Call for T105 Telephone Stations. If the call
is not answered after 3 minutes then the signalling will cease and busy tone will sound at the Special
Telephone.
The Special Telephone will receive busy tone if any T105 Telephone Station is off-hook. This means
that if an intercom call is in progress, the Special Telephone cannot join it to form an Internal Con-
ference.
The only way for the Special Telephone to take part in an Internal Conference is for it to be either
the originator of the conference or the first station to go off-hook when an Internal Conference is
announced.

All Call Paging from the Special Telephone

. Lift the handset.
. Dial “5”.
. Speak into the handset.
The voice message will be heard at all Telephone Stations until a Telephone Station goes off hook to
respond. If no Telephone Station responds within 3 minutes then busy tone will sound at the Special
Telephone.
Note: an All Call Page will not operate if any other Telephone Station is off-hook.

1.6.4 ROOM MONITOR STATION

Room Monitoring
The Telephone Station performing the monitoring may do so on-hook (via the speaker) or off-hook (via
the handset for privacy).
. Move the Rwm Monitor Switch to ON at the Room Monitor Station.

1 - 12 T105
ISSUE 4
General Operating Instructions

On-Hook Monitoring
. Press the MON key at the monitoring Telephone Station.
The MON lamp will come ON.
. Momentarily press the INTERCOM key.
. Dial “4”.
Sounds at the Room Monitor Station will be heard via the Telephone Station speaker.
. Press the MON key again to stop monitoring.
The MON lamp will go OFF.
Off-Hook Monitoring
. Lift the handset at the monitoring Telephone Station.
. Momentarily press the INTERCOM key.
. Dial “4”.
Sounds at the Room Monitor Station will be heard via the Telephone Station handset.
. Replace the handset to stop monitoring.
. Move the Room Monitor Switch to OFF at the Room Monitor Station.
Monitoring from the Special Telephone
From the Special Telephone, only off-hook monitoring can be performed (by dialling “4”).

1.6.5 DOOR STATION

Door Chime Operation
When a visitor presses the Door Station Chime Key, a distinctive 3 second tone is heard at all T105
Telephone Stations.
This chime overrides the tone indicating an Individual Intercom Call as well as the On Hold and Off-
Hook Alarms.
The chime is audible at the same time as exchange ringing signal, and also while calls are in progress.

Communicating with the Door Station

Any Telephone Station may converse with the Door Station.
If the station is engaged in an exchange line call, the outside party must first be placed On Hold.
. Lift the handset.
. Momentarily press the INTERCOM key.
. Dial “6”.
The T105 system can handle an exchange line call and a Door Station call simultaneously (from dif-
ferent telephone stations).
If an intercom conversation is in progress, all stations must go on-hook before the Door Station can be
answered.
A Door Station conversation may only last 3 minutes. After 3 minutes, the Door Station call is ter-
minated, and the Off-Hook Alarm sounds at the telephone station. The call may be resumed by placing
the handset on-hook and recalling the Door Station.

‘-. Data Sender/Receiver

The Data Sender/Receiver circuit:
- sends control signals to the Main Equipment when the Telephone Station control keys are
pressed; and
- operates the Telephone Station LINE Lamp and Signal Amp under the control of signals
received from the Main Equipment.
Control signals exchanged between the Main Equipment and the T105 Telephone Station are listed in
Table 1.6

Power Fail Tone Caller

In the event of power failure, the Main Equipment connects the Voice Pairs of all stations to the ex-
change (or PBX) line and the Data Pairs become inactive.
The Telephone Station norma!ly obtains its ringing signal from the Data Pair, so when the power fails,
ringing signal must be generated from the Voice Pair. The Power Fail Tone Caller contains an oscillator
and amplifier which are activated in the presence of ringing current on the Voice Pair.

Access Barring Keylock

The Access Barring Keylock disables the station dialler, leaving the All Call Page as the only possible
outgoing call. Incoming calls are unaffected.

Installation Warnings

d. Components are physically delicate. Finger pressure on a component can fracture, but not __
necessarily break component leads, producing a future fault.

Careless handling, storage
and transporting will cause secondary or future faults.

2.3 EQUIPMENT ORDERING

2.4.4 DOOR STATIONS

The Door Station is generally installed near the main entry of a building, and care must be taken to _
avoid damage to adjacent wall surfaces, particularly where brick walls are involved.
After installation the transmit and receive levels should be adjusted for optimum performance on loca-
tion by means of the trimpots on the DSIB. Refer to section 2.9.4, Door Station Level Adjustment.

Surface Mounting Door Station

The surface mounting Door Station has the same design features as the Room Monitor Station, and the
mounting instructions of Section 2.4.3 apply.

Flush Mounting Door Stations

The flush mounting Stainless Steel and Bronze Decorative Door Stations are identical apart from their
removable front plates. To mount them, a suitable opening must be provided in the wall surface for the
station to fit in.
The protective film on the buttons, label and stainless steel face plate should be removed after installa-
tion.
On a timber wall, the Door Station is attached with screws through the mounting holes at each of its
corners.
On a brick or fibrocement wall, the door station is attached using the Flush Mounting Kit (FMK-T105).
This Kit, which is ordered separately, consists of a locking bracket (see fig. 2.6) which clamps in the wall
cavity. The bracket is inserted into the wall cavity at an angle and then straightened before tightening
the screws. The door station is then screwed to the front plate of the Flush Mounting Kit.

2.6.4 PRINTED BOARD ASSEMBLIES

A locking bar secures all plug-in PBAs in the Main Equipment. This must be removed to enable these
PBAs to be inserted or removed. Its replacement after assembly ensures that all PBAs are correctly and
firmly located.

To remove the PBA locking bar (see Fig. 2.1 l), loosen the single retaining screw and slide the bar to the
left.

All PBAs in the T105 system are marked with their code and serial/item number.

The Central Processor Board (CPB-T105) is included with the Main Equipment, and provides the com-
mon control circuitry as well as interfaces for Telephone Stations 1 and 2.

The Cable Terminating Module (CTM-T105) is also included with the Main Equipment.

An Auxiliary Cable Terminating Module (CTM-T105-2LHF) must be installed when 2-Line or

Handsfree Stations are to be provided.

3 MAINTENANCE

3.1 INTRODUCTION
The following Maintenance Section contains information which will be of assistance to field staff main-
taining Commander T105 systems.
Maintenance staff are requested to familiarise themselves with the warnings contained in Section 3.2,
and in general to confine maintenance activities to the replacement of faulty assemblies and parts.
Details of dismantling various items of equipment are contained in the Installation Section (Section 2) of
this manual. When maintenance requires the dismantling of equipment, the appropriate installation
reference should be consulted.
To assist in the ordering of maintenance spares, a serial list, exploded views and summary of all items
is included in the Appendix.
Notes: 1. Refer to section 1 .lO for SYSTEM LIMITATIONS and COMPATIBILITY.
2. Refer to Supplement Section for maintenance information on 2-Line Station, Handsfree
Station and Station Amplifier.

3.2 WARNINGS
r The following precautions must be observed when working on the system.
1. The T105 is a four wire telephone system. One pair is used for speech, the second for power and data,
hence it is imperative that the system is wired with the correct polarities. Check all wiring before initially
applying power to the system.

2. Take special care not to short between any terminals. This may cause damage to the system.

3. Handling of Printed Board Assemblies (PBAs):

,--
This equipment contains static sensitive components, and caution in handling is advised.
Finger pressure on a component can fracture, but not
necessarily break component leads, producing a future fault.
e. To protect against physical damage and damage due tq static discharge, PBAs must ALWAYS
be wrapped in the original wrapping (an ANTISTATIC plastic bag), and then placed in the protec-
tive container provided with the new item.
NOTE: These procedures apply equally to both working and faulty PBAs. Careless handling, storage
and transporting will cause secondary or future faults.

3.3 TEST EQUIPMENT

The following equipment is required for field maintenance of the Commander T105:
- Normal maintenance tools, i.e. Buttinski, long-nose pliers, angle cutters and screwdrivers etc; and
- A multimeter with small test probes to measure line socket voltages.

3 - l T105
ISSUE 4
Maintenance Customer Equipment Fault Report Label

3.4 CUSTOMER EQUIPMENT FAULT REPORT LABEL -

To assist repair of assemblies and other items, field staff MUST attach a Customer Equipment Fault
Report Label, E441, (shown in Fig. 3.1) to all faulty assemblies at the time of field replacement. As the
circuits of these assemblies are complex, any information regarding the faulty condition will be of great
assistance to the repair centre. If the fault condition is suspected of being intermittent, this should be
noted also.

Fig. 3.1 Customer Equipment Fault Report Label

3.5 MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES

Due to the sensitivity of some components and difficulties of performing precise field diagnosis and
repair, maintenance is limited to changeover of printed board assemblies, modules or complete equip-
ment items as detailed in Section 3.5 and Section 3.6.
Details of dismantling procedures are included where the dismantling of equipment involves anything
other than obvious release and removal techniques.
For non-disposable modules (printed board assemblies and equipment items), it is emphasised that to
protect the faulty assemblies from further damage, they should be transported in the protective packag-
ing and containers supplied with the new items.

3.5.1 MAIN EQUIPMENT

All modules and PBAs in the Main Equipment (ME) are replaceable and available for field maintenance.
Some pertinent instructions on Main Equipment maintenance operations are included in Section 2, i.e:

Central Processor Board Replacement

As the Central Processor Board (CPB) is the most difficult module to replace in the Main Equipment,
any fault should be firmly diagnosed to this PBA before it is replaced.
To replace the CPB:
. Release the cable tie and remove the Cable Terminating Module (CTM) with its terminations
intact.
. Remove all plug-in PBAs and plugs from the CPB.
. Remove the Power Supply.
. Remove the Main Equipment (ME) from the wall.
. From the rear of the ME, use pliers to squeeze and push in the mounting posts supporting the
CPB. Remove the CPB through the top of the Main Equipment (see Fig. 3.2).
. When the CPB is clear, transfer the mounting posts to the replacement CPB and push the new
CPB and mounting post assembly into place.
. Re-install all plugs, modules and PBAs.
. Ensure that the faulty CPB is returned to store in its correct packaging with the Customer Equip-
ment Fault Report Label.

FROM REAR MAIN

Fig. 3.2 - CPB Removal/Replacement

3.5.2 POWER SUPPLY and VOLTAGE REGULATOR

A fauft in the Power Supply or Voltage Regulator, other than a blown fuse, requires the replacement of
the Power Supply module or the Voltage Regulator Assembly respectively.
WARNING
DO NOT Unplug the Voltage Regulator Assembly with the power on.
DO NOT connect power with Voltage Regulator Assembly disconnected as filter capacitors will cause
surge damage to CPB and VRA.
A spare fuse is located in the plastic housing at the top right hand corner of the Main Equipment Control
Panel.
To replace the Power Supply:
. Unscrew the Control Panel and move it forward.
. Release the power cord clamp and the two captive screws at the front of the Power Supply.
. Slide the Power Supply out of its location.
. Release the connector to the CPB.

3.53 TELEPHONE STATIONS

Maintenance on Telephone Stations is confined to replacement of the following components:
- Line and handset cords;
- Transmitters, receivers and complete handsets;
- Detachable number cards, colour cards, faceplate and knobs;
- Power Fail Tone Callers;
- Access Barring Keylocks; and
- Wall Mounting Kit components.
Faults which cannot be rectified by replacement of the above parts will require replacement of the com-
plete Telephone Station.

3.9 REPAIR PROCEDURES FOR ACCOUNTABLE ITEMS

3.9.1 PRINTED BOARD ASSEMBLIES (PBAs)

No repair of PBAs will be carried out on site or in field depots. Any fault in a PBA will necessitate
replacement of that assembly.
All faulty PBAs will be suitably packaged (same type of carton and packaging as supplied with the new
item) for forwarding, using existing procedures, to the State Workshops where replacements will be
provided.
A Customer Equipment Fault Report Label (E441) must be attached to all faulty PBAs, and filled out
with as many details of the fault condition as possible. -
Each State Workshop should keep an accurate record of all PBAs despatched and received to ensure
that replacements are obtained one-for-one.

STATION AMPLIFIER
4.1 INTRODUCTION
This section of the manual is a supplement to provide description, installation and maintenance
information on later options now available on the Commander T105 Telephone System.
These options include a Station Amplifier, a 2-Line Station and a Handsfree Station.
The information in this supplement applies specifically to the above optional items and should be used
in conjunction with the other sections of the manual.
The Appendix section provides information to assist in ordering, installation, and maintenance
components for these optional items.

4.2 WARNINGS .

Do NOT handle PBA tracks, components or edge
connectors (contaminants introduced by fingers can cause corrosion and high resistance
connections).
d. Components are physically delicate. Finger pressure on a component can fracture, but not
necessarily break components leads, producing a future fault.
e. To protect against physical damage and damage due to static discharge, PBAs must ALWAYS
be wrapped in the original wrapping (an ANTISTATIC plastic bag), and then placed in the
protective container provided with the new item.

NOTE: These procedures apply equally to both working and faulty PBAs. Careless handling, storage
and transporting will cause secondary or future faults.

4.3 P-LINE STATION

4.3.1 GENERAL’DESCRIPTION
The 2-Line Station resembles the T105 Telephone Station in appearance, with the addition of a second
line button (LINE 2) and associated LED indicator for a direct line to that station (Fig. 4.1). The 2-Line
Station may replace any CommanderT Telephone Station such that the maximum line capacity of the
system becomes 6 (i.e. 1 system line plus 5 direct lines).
The CommanderT Telephone Station User Guide has been extended to include user instructions for
the 2-Line Station and will be included with the Station. The station case and set of six faceplate Colour
Cards are in the same colours as the standard CommanderT Telephone Station.
Decadic 2-Line Stations also have a 10 number abbreviated dialling facility. Separate stations are
required for Decadic or VF operation.

4.3.2 OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

The e-Line Station includes all facilities of the standard T105 Telephone Station plus an additional
exclusive exchange line.
The line keys are designated Line 1 and Line2. Line 1 is common to all stations as the system exchange
line and Line2 is an exclusive second exchange line on that 2-Line Station.
All operating procedures for the Standard Station apply to the 2-Line Station, with the following
additions.

Visual Indication
A separate line lamp provides a visual indication of line status on Line2.

LINE LAMP INDICATION FLASHING RATE

Steady Busy Steady
Slow Flash Call on Hold 1s On/is Off
Rapid Flash Incoming Call Follows Ring Cadence
NOTE: Line lamps are extinguished during the operation of several functions (refer section 1.6.2).

Audible Signals
The exchange line call signal on Line2 is a higher pitched tone to distinguish it from the Line 1 call
signal.
Exchange Line1 call: 0.4s ON/0.2s OFF/O.4s ON12s OFF, 500/600 Hz modulated by 16 Hz.
Exchange Line2 call: 0.4s ON/0.2s 0FFl0.4~ ONl2s OFF, 630 Hz.
Intercom Call: 1 s ON/2s OFF, 500/600 Hz modulated by 16 Hz.
On Hold Alarm: 1 s ON/l s OFF, 600 Hz.
Off Hook Alarm: 0.5s ON/0.5s OFF, 600 Hz.

Incoming Exchange Line Call on Line2

Line2 lamp flashes rapidly and a higher pitch ring tone is provided to signal an incoming call on Line2.
The volume of the call signal on both Line 1 and Line2 may be adjusted simultaneously using the call
volume control on the station.
To answer an exchange call on Line2:
l lift the handset
0 press the Line2 key.
The Line2 lamp will glow steadily.

The LINE2 lamp will glow steadily.

Monitor
The progress of a dialled call on LINE 2 may be monitored in the same manner as calls on the standard
T105 Telephone Station.

PBX Recall
Line2 on the 2-Line Station is not equipped with the PBX recall facility.

Abbreviated Diaiiing (Decadic Stations Only)

Up to 10 numbers (max. 19 digits each) may be stored.
To store a number: - lift
- press *
- dial required number
- press *
- dial storage location (O-9)
- replace handset.
To dial an
abbreviated number: - lift handset, select line
- press #
- dial required storage location (O-9).

Power Fail
The 2-Line Station is provided with power fail operation as a standard feature to enable incoming and
outgoing calls to be made. The power fail line will be Line 1 unless Line2 was in use at the time of power
failure, in which case Line2 will be “locked in” as the power fail line.

Wail Mounting/Keyiocks
The CommanderT Wall Mounting Kit and Access Barring Keylock can be fitted to the 2-Line Station.
As in standard CommanderT Telephone Stations the Access Barring Keylock disables operation of the
dial.
An optional Long Line Cord is available.

Line2 - Parallel Stations

If required the second line of more than one 2-Line or Handsfree Station may be connected in parallel.
If so customers must be advised that the operation of the Line2 lamps for “in use” and “in hold” may
be misleading and that Line2 will operate like parallel telephones.

4-3 T105
ISSUE 4
Supplement 2-tine Station Operating lnstndons

If Line2 on your station is in parallel with any other station the following procedures apply. -.

The Station Amplifier can be configured as a single line unit or as a two line unit. A single line unit must
be fed from the data pair from the Main Equipment and the second line connects directly across the
2nd exchange line.
This section describes each of these components in more detail.

Power Pack
The Power Supply pair contains a transformer which converts incoming 246 V AC mains power to
12 V DC. This voltage is fed to the Voltage Regulator Circuit on the main printed circuit assembly.
--
SAB-T105-SA
Voltage Regulator Circuit
The Voltage Regulator Circuit houses a regulator which smooths the rectified voltage to + 12 V DC and
provides an input polarity protection Diode.

System Tone Detection Circuit

This circuit is designed to sense from the data signals on the data pair, the ring cadence and tone
generated in the ME originating from an Exchange line call or intercom call and in addition the paging
voice signals. It supplies the biasing potentials for the TONE SWITCH circuit and allows the ring tone
signal and paging voice signals to pass through from the data pair. These signals are superimposed on
the data signal.

Tone Switch
An analogue switch is employed to switch the desired signals (either tone and/or voice from the ME or
tone from the 2nd exchange line) on to the Tone Amplifier.
Simultaneous signals appearing at the switch are switched favouring the System Signals (ME
originated).

Tone Amplifier
This circuit is a simple linear amplifier which boosts the low level signals (tone or voice) to a level which
drives either the monitor speaker or external Horn Speaker.

of ring tone is made identifiable by tone distinctive from the System Ring tone signal.

4.6 INSTALLATION SUPPLEMENT

4.6.1 INTRODUCTION
This section describes the additional requirements for the installation of the 2-Line Station, the
Handsfree Station and the Station Amplifier. Other aspects of the T105 System installation are detailed
in section 2.
System line limits are listed in section 1.7 and include cabling limits for the 2-Line Station, Handsfree
Station and Station Amplifier with the Horn Loudspeaker.

4.6.2 EQUIPMENT ORDERING

The Telephone Service Order provides initial customer information. Copies of the System Order Form,
with details of customer options, are also provided to enable the requisition of all necessary items of
equipment for the installation.
Appendix B provides a guide for ordering Commander T105 equipment for installation.

4.6.3 P-LINE STATION

The e-Line Station is a Gwire station using the third pair of wires for the second (direct) exchange line.
. A secondary Cable Terminating Module, CTM-T105-2LHF, must be provided with the first
2-Line or Handsfree Station to be installed on a Commander T105 System.
. 2-Line Stations must be ordered as either V.F. or decadic to suit the Commander T105 System
on which it is to be installed.
. Both exchange lines on the 2-Line Station must be the same i.e. either V.F. of decadic.
. 2-Line Stations are supplied with a pack of five alternative colour cards, and a user guide booklet.
. The second line on a 2-Line Station may be paralleled as the second line of other 2-Line Stations
within the limits of parallel telephones. In this situation the lamp signals may be misleading to the
user.

NOTE: When a Commander T105 System is installed with a 2-Line Station, it is not essential to install
