D. Discussing new concepts and Activity 1: Magnetic Flux Experiment
practicing new skills #1 Materials - Magnets, coils, ammeter
Instructions -
1) Place a coil near a magnet and measure the induced current with the
ammeter.
2) Increase the strength of the magnetic field and record the corresponding
changes in the induced current.
3) Analyze the data to understand the impact of magnetic flux on induced
electromotive force.
Rubric - Accuracy of data interpretation - 15 pts.
Assessment Questions:
1) How does the number of magnetic field lines passing through a coil affect
the induced current?
2) How does the movement of the magnet affect the induced current?
3) Explain the role of Faraday's Law in this experiment.
4) What factors can influence the strength of the induced current?
E. Discussing new concepts and TEACH TALK
practicing new skills #2 Introduce Faraday's Law, which states that the magnitude of the induced
EMF (electromotive force) in a conductor is proportional to the rate of
change of the magnetic field through the conductor.
Explain the concept of EMF as the potential difference (voltage)
induced in the conductor. You can use an analogy of water pressure to
explain the concept of EMF.
F. Developing Mastery Explain the scenario below:
c) Ampere's Law
d) Electrostatic repulsion
2.According to Faraday's Law, an EMF (electromotive force) is induced in a
conductor whenever it:
a) Lies in a constant magnetic field.
b) Carries a large current.
c) Cuts through magnetic field lines.
d) Is made of a thick material.
3.The SI unit for EMF (electromotive force) is:
a) Ampere (A)
b) Ohm (Ω)
c) Volt (V)
d) Tesla (T)
4.Which of the following actions will NOT increase the magnitude of the
induced current in a coil of wire?
a) Increasing the speed of the magnet relative to the coil.
b) Using a stronger magnet.
c) Decreasing the number of turns in the coil.
d) Using a material with higher resistance for the coil.
5.A transformer utilizes the principle of electromagnetic induction to:
a) Generate direct current (DC).
b) Increase or decrease voltage in an AC circuit.
c) Store electrical energy.
d) Measure current flow.
J. Additional activities for Assignment:
application for remediation Conduct research on Faraday's Law applications in modern technologies.
Assessment Question :
1. Present your findings on how induced emf is utilized in
electromagnetic devices.
2. what steps are involved in calculating induced emf in a coil of wire
experiencing a changing magnetic field?
