HC885 CASCADE MANAGER
1 - Installation
1.1 - Piping installation
For the correct working of the 885HC cascade manager, appliances shall be installed like on Figure 1-1 where, the MASTER
heater must be always the closest to the low loss header because on the MASTER heater there will be connected the
cascade general sensor.
A maximum of 8 heaters can be connected in cascade.

At the time of the installation all heaters are the same. After the installation the heater nearest the low loss header need some
hardware adjustment to become the Managing heater #1 and the other heaters need a software changement to become
dependent heaters. To do so, exactly follow next sections.

NOTICE! Figure 1-1 is only one example of a conceptual piping configuration. A lot of other configurations can be done. Ask
to your representant/Agent or to the heater manufacturer directly for any other configurations/schemes.

1.3 - Adjust the logic address on each heater
1.- Operate on the appliance nearest the low loss header;
2.- Check that parameter 2003 is at 0;
3.- Connect the 885HC cascade manager to heater terminals 16 and 17;
4.- Turn On the power switch;
5.- wait until setpoint is displayed on the 885HC cascade manager screen (could take up to 3 minutes);

6.- Using the 885HC cascade manager, enter the Sub Menu (see section 2.1) and set parameter “Boiler address” at 1;
7.- Leave the Sub Menu up to the main menu and wait until display shows the “Boiler address” at 1 (#1 must be displayed)
(It could take up to 2 minutes);

8.- Turn off the main power switch;

9.- Disconnect the 885HC cascade manager from the heater Master #1;
10.- Repeat steps 4 to 9 on all heaters of the cascade. Set “Boiler address” at sequent values (2, 3, 4….);
11.- After set the “Boiler address” parameter on all heater, back to install the 885HC cascade manager on terminals 16 and
17 of the heater with “Boiler address” = #1.
12.- Turn on all heaters of the cascade and wait 2 minutes;
13.- Press button “10” (figure 2-1) on the 885HC cascade manager to change the display screen;
14.- Now display should show the state of all heaters installed on the cascade;

1.4 - Adjust the 885HC command for boilers or for water heaters
885HC command is factory supplied with all parameters ready for boiler application but not for water heaters applications.
When your system is in place, you have to review all parameters of the Sub Menu to be in line with the list of section 2.3.
Select the column boiler settings if you are opearating on a boiler application; select the column water heater settings if you
are operating on a water heater application.

2 - Use of the 885HC cascade manager
CAUTION! Before any activity wait 40 seconds for communication between cascade manager and heaters.
The 885HC cascade manager has a basic screen that you can see in the picture below. Each button of the display has a
different function.

Key of figure 2-1:

1 = Boiler address
2 = Heating setpoint
3 = Cascade temperature
4 = Status of the cascade (when it is in stand-
by, the value disappears)
5 = OK button to confirm a changement to a
parameter
6 = Up button to scroll parameters or to
increase a value
7 = Menu button to back on normal menu
8 = Down button to scroll parameters or to
decrease a value
9 = Home button to enter the sub menù
10 = Button to change the screen
11 = outdoor temperature
12 = RESET button. Reset blocks (Loc) present
only into the master heater.

Figure 2-1 Control panel

By pressing button “10” of figure 2-1 the bottom side of the display will change to show the status of the cascade. Display
will show the numbers of heaters into the cascade, numbers “1”, “2”, and “3” (they can be up to “8”) and if they are in request
for heating a flame icon appear below the number, or if they are in stand by a underscore icon appear below numers while
if there are an anomaly in the appliance a wrench icon appear below numbers .
When the appliance is working, under the flame icon appear the value of the operating power of the single appliance.

A = Heaters on cascade
B = State of the heater:
Flame: heat demand
Wrench: heater in error

2.1 - Sub Menù

Refer to figure 2-1 when not otherwise specified.
From the status screen the “Sub Menu” can be entered by pressing and hold the “HOME” button (detail “9”) for 8 seconds.
When the Sub Menu is displayed you can select a parameter by scrolling the list with the “UP” and “DOWN” button (detail
“6” and “8”).

8
HC885 CASCADE MANAGER
When the parameter is selected, press the “OK” button (the dot of parameter selectioned will move on the value).

The parameter value will start to blinking. Now you can change the parameter value by using the “UP” and “DOWN” button.
When the desired value is reached you can save it by pressing the “OK” button.
Set all the parameter following figure 2-3 (°C).
To leave the Sub Menu, press the “Menu” button (detail “7” of figure 2-1).

CAUTION! After any change, wait 40 seconds before turn the power off.
Parameters displayed in this Sub Menu are showed in figure 2-3.

2.2 - Troubleshooting
DESCRIPTION SOLUTION

(see Figure 2-2)
“Boiler address” parameter is correctly set in all heaters Check that communication wires are correctly in place
but the same heaters reference is not shown on display (see figure 1-2 terminals 30 and 31 on manager heaters
(see figure below). and 28 and 29 on corresponding dependents.

One of the SLAVE diveces works continuously also if I Communication of that heater is lost. Check on the right
bring to OFF the heat demand. screen if the quantity of heaters reflect the real state. (see
figure below)

Changing the logic address on the heater, as per section After changing the logic address, display can wait up to
1.4, I’m unable to see the update on the screen 180 seconds to show the address on the screen (see

HC885 CASCADE MANAGER
Parameters key and descriptions figure 2-3:
"Boiler address" = heater logic address. It is needed to recognize heaters inside the communication bus channel;

"Temperature unit" = Selection of the temperature unit of measure °C (Celsius) or °F (Fahrenheit);

"Heating setpoint" = Selection of the cascade supply temperature. The same selection can be done alternatively on the heater keys;

"DHW ON…OFF" = Selection not available for these appliances;

"Start delay time" = Delay to switch on a heater on the cascade. This timing start when the General cascade sensor temperature is
lower than “Cascade Setpoint” - “Start boiler diff”;

"Stop delay time" = Delay to switch off a heater on the cascade. This timing start when the General cascade sensor temperature is
higher than “Cascade Setpoint” + “Stop boiler diff”;

"Start boiler diff" = Switch on differential of the heaters into the cascade. It works as described on parameter “Start delay time”;

sensor temeprature drops over “Cascade Setpoint” + “Stop All boiler diff” the last heater of the cascade (or lasts heaters, if the case),
will switch off;

"System correction" = Correction temperature for the cascade general sensor in case it is not correctly positioned;

"Mod delay factor" = Delay to the effects of “Max offset up” and “Max offset down” parameters on the setpoint of each heater into the
cascade.
