Ramadān

IN THE NAME OF GOD, THE MOST GRACIOUS, THE MOST
MERCIFUL
"O people, the month of Allah has come upon
you with blessings, mercy, and forgiveness. This
month is the most favorable month in the view
of Almighty Allah. Its days are the best days. Its
nights are the best nights. Its hours are the best
hours. In this month, you have been invited to
the hospitality of Almighty Allah and you have
been chosen to be within the people of
Almighty Allah’s honoring. Your breaths in this
month are (considered) glorification (of
Almighty Allah). Your sleep in this month is
(considered) an act of worship. Your deeds are
accepted in this month. Your prayers are
responded in this month. You may thus pray
Almighty Allah with sincere intentions and pure
hearts that He will guide you to observing
fasting (properly) and to reciting His Book in
this month. Verily, the true miserable is he
whom is deprived of Almighty Allah’s
forgiveness in this magnificent month.
[...] The month of Ramadan is the month of
Allah. It is the most honorable of all months. In
this month, the doors of heavens, gardens of
Paradise, and mercy are opened while the doors
of Hellfire are closed. In this month too, there is
a night at which the acts of worship are more
favorable than the worship of one thousand
months. In view of that, you are advised to take
notice of this and consider how to spend the
nights and days of this month and how to keep
your organs and senses against committing any
act of disobedience to Almighty Allah."

Goals
Set your goals
It is crucial to write down your goals for the
month of Ramadan since it is a month in which
we have to try to establish new habits and get
rid of our bad ones.

Set a sincere intention and make sure you

are always aware of the WHY.

Set realistic goals that fits with your

capabilities and your schedule

Make a list of the good habits you'd like to

establish and the bad ones to get rid of

Create daily/weekly/monthly plans that fit

with your schedule

On top of your main goals, have back up

goals for days when the main ones will be
more difficult to achieve if you are tired or
have less time

Murāqabah
WHAT IS MEANT HERE BY MURĀQABAH IS OBSERVANCE OF THE SELF

Try to observe yourself every day.

Every night, reflect on your day and try to notice
what worked well and what could be done better.
At the end of the week, adust your schedule
accordingly. Slowly try to add acts or worship to
your planning and see how it goes.

Quality over quantity

By observing your progress, you must seek to notice
changes in yourself. It is not the amount of acts that
are important but the sincerity of your intention
and actions.
Some of us are busier than others, like mothers or
hard working husbands, and in the duties one have,
there is spirituality. Setting the right intention and
being sincere is the most crucial aspect in this
process. Just try and give the best of yourself.

What if I can't fast?
We usually associate the month of Ramadān with the act of
fasting. When non-muslims ask you what is the month of
Ramadān about, usually you'll tell them that it's a period in
which Muslims fast. However, is that really what this month is
about?

What about the ones that are unable to fast due to sickness,
mental health, meds, pregnancy or any other reason? It's
normal for them to feel guilty, lonely and isolated. Instead of
adding more pressure, as a community we should support one
another.

If you are unable to fast for whatever reason, you can still
benefit from the Holy month of Ramadān as it is more than
fasting.

It is not a reflection of your faith. If it was, would

The holy month of Ramadān is the month of God, the month of

the Qurān. Every year during Ramadān, don’t we try to read the
whole Qurān in 30 days? Let’s say it, it’s not easy. We rush to read
it all but do we take the time to really contemplate it? The Qurān
has to be read carefully and we must reflect on each verse. It has
a lot to tell us.
1 // Try to establish the habit of reading the Qurān on a daily
basis (even after the month of Ramadan). Set a goal according
to your personal schedule.
2 // The most important thing is to connect with the Qurān.
Take your time, reflect and contemplate. Make sure you
understand what you're reading that is how you create a
relationship with the Qurān
