iii. After one year, if he gets a capital gain of Rs. 4500 by selling all his

by giving reasons show that 𝑥 can take only one value. By taking
√5 = 2.2 find the length of the rectangle to the first decimal place.

01. Sujatha buys kids shirts for Rs. 180 each and kids trousers for Rs. 150 each by
spending Rs. 2940. She then sells kids shirts for Rs. 280 each and kids trousers for
Rs. 300 each and gains a profit of Rs. 2300.
i. By taking the number of kids shirts she bought as ‘𝑎’ and number of kids
trousers as ‘𝑏’, construct a pair of simultaneous equations.
ii. By solving them, find the number of kids shirts and kids trousers that
Sujatha bought.

02. A flower pots manufacturer prepared a certain concrete mixture to make cement
flower pots by mixing cement and sand to the ratio 2 ∶ 13. He makes 60 pans of
concrete mixture at a time.
i. By taking the number of pans of cement used to make the mixture as 𝑥 and
the number of pans of sand as 𝑦, build up a pair of linear simultaneous
equations including 𝑥 and 𝑦. (Ignore the changes take place when using
water.)
ii. Solve the pair of simultaneous equations and find the number of pans
of sand and the number of pans of cement that he used.

03. Total cost of 2 𝑘𝑔 of sugar and 3 𝑘𝑔 of dhal is Rs. 720. Price of 1 𝑘𝑔 of dhal is Rs.
15 more than the price of 1 𝑘𝑔 of sugar. By taking price of 1 𝑘𝑔 of sugar as Rs. 𝑥 and
1 𝑘𝑔 of dhal as Rs. 𝑦 build up a pair of simultaneous equations and by solving it find
the values of 𝑥 and 𝑦.
