HIST11 Exercise1.1 PADALAPAT C
The distinction between history and past is quite amusing because past commenced
first before history. The past is the summation of all events from the very beginning
of time, all the events whether seen, remembered or not been discerned by the senses
of the past. While in the other hand history started as span of time where writing was
discovered, and all of momentous events had evidence and documented.
3. Differentiate history from prehistory. Where does one end and where does one
begin?
Prehistory lies in between past and history. In prehistory dwells the activity of
humanity before discovering writing, while history is the period of archive’s
existence. Prehistory ended as history begun due to the discovery of writing system
that elaborately record the events of time.
4. Give a reaction to this philosophical philosophy: “If you don’t know history, then
you don’t know anything. You are a leaf that doesn’t know it is part of the tree.”
Yes, absolutely right. How could a person discover his/ her genuine identity without
the knowledge of his/her own origin? The history of a person defines the identity and
belongingness of the person. Just like the leaf, a person will fall and decay if it has no
relation to its roots. The lushing leaves of the tree are firmly connected and are
sustained by the roots, same as with humans and its origin.
Historical writings play an important emphasis to the life of a person, to the identity
of the group/race and the entire country. The historical records depict the beginning
and reasons of the event that molds the present days of our time. The history derives
the future that is why it is crucial for us to be equipped with knowledge of the origins
of our life because we are making history today that shall steer and mold the upcoming
future.
