INTRODUCTION
Ethics examines the rational justification for our moral judgments; it studies what
is morally right or wrong, just or unjust. In a broader sense, ethics reflects on
human beings and their interaction with nature and with other humans, on freedom,
on responsibility and on justice. To become stable in one’s organization or
establishment, superiors need to come out guidelines or appropriate behaviours that
employees expected to follow in executing or performing business or duties.

QUESTION1.
A code of ethics is a written set of expectations that an organization has for its
employees to conduct business in an honest manner. Ethics are values and
principles that govern behavior or conduct. A company's code of ethics is
important for a business setting because it sets the expectations that a person
working for the business is just and fair. This instills a sense of trust and
confidence amongst the stakeholders of the business. Stakeholders are any person
or entity that holds an interest in the business. A code of ethics is different from a
code of conduct in that a code of ethics is a broad accountability document that
outlines professional standards for employees while they are engaged in business
practices, whereas a code of conduct serves as a guide for an employee to conduct
themselves on a day-to-day basis.

QUESTION 2.

interactions and makes sure they participate in fair business practices, which can
essentially protect the company's reputation. Its purpose is to have universal
compliance so that employees will make good decisions in the workplace. Code of
ethics in an organization exists for various reason. Below are some reasons why

 It helps to protect the company from things such as liability and criminal

QUESTION 4.
Ethics in hospitality refers to a value system that guides all your management
decisions. It encompasses the principles, values, and standards your hotel promises
to live up to.
Below are some ethical practices in the hospitality industry with example;
i. Treating your employees fairly:
Treating your employees fairly is one of the most important ethical
commitments in the hospitality industry. Your employees are the face of
your business and if you don’t treat them well, you probably won’t treat
your guests well. Ensure fair and competitive wages, safe working
conditions, and equal opportunities regardless of race, socioeconomic
background, and education level.
Example;
Kofi and Abu were high school graduate who were employed by Royal
Nick Hotel in Tema as waiters, HR sticking to value of the hotel, decided to
pay an equal amount GHS 1,000 to each of them as salary at the end of the
month.

ii. Customer first:

'The guest is always right' is an ethical premise. After all, your guests are
keeping you in business, so treat them with respect, honesty, and fairness.
Avoid false advertising, price gauging, or hidden fees. Ensuring
transparency across all channels encourages positive guest interactions
because it shows your ethical responsibility.

Example;
Abu apologized to Mr. Nkrumah whose order was prepared with the time
duration Abu gave him but still complained of delay with his ordered meal.

iii. Data privacy:

Nowadays, data privacy and security are ethical and legal obligations,
especially in Europe with GDPR. Hotels handle a large amount of sensitive
data, so tell your guests what you do with the data and who's managing it.
You must safeguard their data and use it with consent in the most
transparent way possible.

Example;
Delight, the receptionist at Lancaster Accra Hotel asked her colleague to
excuse her desk while she processed Mr. Loic’s bills with his credit card
information while masking the number on the card.

iv. Regulatory compliance:

Fulfilling your legal obligations is critically important for your success.
Those include labor laws, health and safety standards – such as having fire
hydrants on every floor and an exit plan – and other legal requirements. Be
sure to keep an eye on changing legislation.
Example;
Mr. Oti the general manager of Dot’s In, complied with the labor laws of
the country by paying the right amount of money to all staffs he laid off,
though the company was facing some financial crisis at the time,
