0 LISTENING
25 TOP TIPS AND ESSENTIAL INFORMATION –
1. Only one listening test :
 Listening is common for all 12 professions.
2. There will be 3 parts and total 42 questions.
 Part A –
 2 consultations, medical professional and patient.
 12 gaps per consultation

 Part B –
 6 short dialogues
 6 multiple choice questions with three answer options

 Part C –
 2 long presentations or interviews
 6 multiple choice questions per audio with 3 answer options.
3. The length of the audio is approximately -----minutes and at the
end you will be given two minutes to make corrections.
4. You hear the recording once only:
 This means you will need to listen, read and write on
question paper simultaneously.
5. Make sure you will not be provided separate answer sheet to
transfer your answers rather you will need to write answers on
question paper itself.
6. Use pencil to write answer.
7. You can use short hand (e.g. HTN) while listening to save time;
however, you should write full form at the end.
8. Although scores are calculated by correct answers, it is advisable
to predict and write answer that you missed as there is no
negative mark for wrong answer.
9. You can make notes on question paper, if required.
10. Spellings are not that important unless it pronounce the
same. For example : knowledge can be written as nolege.
11. Prepare the questions and answers.
 Before the audio plays, you will have time to read the
questions and options.
 Read the questions carefully, underline the key words of
each question to understand when the question starts in
audio and understand the differences within the options.
12. Answer can come quickly.
 You might miss the answer for 6 while writing answer for 5.
13. Listen for pleurals.
14. Keep your eyes on next question while writing and have
focus on audio.
15. There also may be a gap between answers. They will not
come at regular intervals, especially for Part C.
 Do not be panic.
 Be calm and listen for the key word.
16. Check where all questions are.
 Do not forget to read the questions on next page.
17. If you miss the answer, forget about that at times and move
on next one.
18. Write the word/s as you listen.
 Do not reformulate the word. E.g. do not write
‘transformation’ if ‘transform’ is spoken in the audio.
 Write as you heard.
19. Be habitual with common traps:
 Sometimes, the speaker accept one option and then change
his/her mind to next option. Here, you need to understand
correct option. For example, “ I thought I will have trouble
putting the eye lances in but that shouldn’t be a problem
now.” Here, speaker accepts that he may have problem
wearing lances but then changes his mind. So be careful to
select the correct answer.
20. Range of accents will be used.
21. Please shade your answers properly for part B and C as they
are assessed computerized.
22. Make sure your headphone is working properly before the
test starts.
23. If headphones are not provided at your place then it is
important to give practice yourself accordingly.
24. Be relaxed before the examination starts.
25. Concentrate – you really need to concentrate because if you
are not focused then you will not only lose your answer nut also
your place in the recording.
