PRESENT CONTINUOUS

We use the Present Continuous for:

- Now, at the moment


Ex: jane is studying for her exams now.
- Temporary actions (this/these)
Ex: We are staying at a hotel these days.
- Fixed arrangements in the near future
Ex: I´m meeting Tom in an hour at a café.
- Changing or developing situations
Ex: The summers are becoming hotter and hotter.
- Annoying situations with “always”
Ex: You are always chewing gum in class.

AFFIRMATIVE NEGATIVE QUESTIONS


I am working I’m not working Am I working?

You/we/they are working You/we/they aren’t working Are you/we/they working?

He/she/it is working He/she/it is working Is he/she/it working?

Spelling:
- Most verbs add –ing Ex: eat – eating
- Verbs ending in –e, drop the –e and take –ing Ex: take – taking
- Verbs ending in consonant + vowel + consonant: double the last consonant Ex: shop –
shopping
- Verbs ending in –ie change the –ie to –y+ing Ex: die – dying
