Selected Instructional Software Tool: Spotify for Podcasters

Description of Software: Spotify for Podcasters, formerly known as Anchor, is a podcast

platform/tool for creators. You can easily create a new show or import your Anchor podcast, and
even find a few ways to monetize your show. They also added video podcasting support. You can
record and edit episodes directly on the Spotify for Podcasters app. This makes it super convenient
for getting started.

How do you plan to implement this lesson and integrate the technology? Check all that apply:

☐ Teacher-led: There is no student voice and choice in the activities. Students are guided by the

teacher's direction and expectations. Learning activities are assigned to the student and mostly
practice based.

☐ Student-Led: Students are given voice and choice in the activities. They may select the topic of
learning and/or determine the tool they will use to meet the learning goal. The teacher facilitates
the learning as the students direct their own learning processes.

X Problem-based and/or Publishable: Students are solving problems and completing projects to
demonstrate their learning. Additionally, the projects can be shared outside of the classroom.
(Note: This objective could be reached by displaying the project on the school’s morning
newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, presenting it to another class, or publishing
it via an outside source.)

Lesson idea implementation:

I will plan for my students to use Spotify for Podcasters to record their reviews on a book with their
groups. It will be introduced by first introducing the book we will be reading about as a class. I will go
over the cover of the book and the author. I will ask students to give ideas on what they think the
book will be about. Then, I will let the class get into groups of four to read the book and go over the
pictures to understand the text. Then they will design a story board or plan to get their ideas
together on what they want to say when they record. I will go over the plan and once it is complete
they can start recording. They will use Spotify for Podcasters and record their episode on what they
thought of the book or any questions they still have. I will make students aware of their goals by
going over the learning standard and objectives of the lesson as a whole class. Students will utilize
the technology by using their chromebooks in groups and they could take turns helping each other. I
will be walking around the classroom and asking questions to each group. I will also help and answer
any questions or concerns they may have with the audio tool. I will provide feedback to each group
as I walk around the class. I will conclude the lesson by allowing each group to publish their podcast.
We will then go over each podcast as a whole class and ask what they thought about the audio tool
and the lesson overall.

Managing student learning:

The students will move from passive to active social learners by listening and following directions
from the teacher to designing their own podcast. I will set time limits throughout the lesson to make
sure everyone is on task. Students will also create a plan before using their audio tool. Once the plan
or storyboard is complete, I will go over it and check if anything needs to be changed. They will also
be working in groups so they can help each other if needed. If they have any questions, they should
ask three team members and then me if there are still concerns.

Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Reflection: Be sure to mention one specific UDL principle you
are focused on in this lesson – Multiple Means of Engagement, Multiple Means of Representation,
or Multiple Means of Action & Expression.
This audio tool includes many components to make sure it supports all students. This will be helpful
for students who have limited writing skills. This benefits ELL students and meets the UDL principle
of multiple means of representation. Spotify for Podcasters allows students to record episodes with
audio and video. Creating a podcast is easy and fun to do for students, allowing them to enhance

their critical thinking and communication skills. This allows students to become motivated in their
learning and create their own podcast. This covers the UDL principle of multiple means of
engagement.

Reflection:
This audio tool will help students to build understanding by improving their engagement and
communication skills. This allows students to create their own projects with their voice and edit the
episode, making them become independent learners. I look forward to implementing this audio tool
because it makes the content more fun, and it is easy to use.
