A Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics V

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the pupils should be able to:
a. divide decimals with up to 2 decimal places
b. estimate the quotient of decimal numbers with reasonable results
c. visualize division of decimal numbers using pictorial models; and
d. participate actively in class

II. Subject Matter

A. Topic: Dividing Decimals

B. Reference 21st Century Mathletes

PP 132-137

C. Materials blackboard, student textbook, LCD Screen

III. Procedure Teacher’s Activity Pupil’s Activity

A. Preparatory Activities

1. Preliminary Activities

 Prayer
Everybody stand up (A pupil will lead the prayer)

 Greetings
Good morning class!
How’s your day? Good morning Sir!
We’re fine Sir!
 Energizer
Really? Let’s see if you are, to make
you more active and alert, let’s have an
energizer.
(Teacher will play a short video) (Pupils will dance together with their teacher)

 Classroom management
Grade V, take your seat and arrange
your chairs. Then, pick up all the pieces
of papers you’ll see Thank you Sir!

 Checking of attendance
Is there any absentee for today?

Very good! Nobody is absent today Sir

2. Drill
Class I have some graphic picture here; all you
have to do is to plot the given numbers. For your
divisor a check mark on the boxes that
corresponds to it, and group it based on the given
dividend.

For Example:

   

   

   

   

   

   

   

   

   

   

0.4 ÷ 0.5 = 20

3. Review Multiplication of decimal numbers sir!

Before we proceed to our new lesson, again
class what is our last lesson?

Let me see if you still remember our past

lesson. Yes, Sir
Are you ready?

(The teacher will post their past activity on the

board)

4. Motivation
Class lets watch a short video about the
importance of mathematics Yes, Sir!
Are you ready?
(The teacher will present a short video)
B. Developmental Activities

1. Presentation

Our lesson for today is about Dividing decimals

To divide decimal numbers and whole numbers

we have some steps and rules to be followed.

Dividing whole numbers with decimal

quotients

Step 1: Write a zero and a decimal point on

the quotient as well as a zero in the tents place
of the dividend

Step 2: Divide. Continue dividing until the

difference is equal to zero.

Dividing Decimals
- If the divisor is not a whole number, move
decimal point to right to make it a whole
number and move decimal point in the
dividend the same number of places

- Divide as usual. Keep dividing until the

answer terminates or repeats

- Put decimal points directly above decimal

point in the dividend

- Check your answer, Multiply quotient by the

divisor.

0.18 ÷ 0.8 = 1.8 ÷ 8

C. Generalization (the students will read the steps)

Okay class, again how can we divide whole

numbers with decimal quotients?

Correct! (the students will read the steps and rules)

How about dividing decimal numbers?

(The students will answer the activity)

D. Application

For your activity

Remember what we did earlier with the graphic

picture? Now I will give you another activity with
regards to that.

Plot and answer the following:

1. 0.6 x 0.5
2. 0.8 x 0.4
3. 0.7 x 0.4
4. 0.8 x 0.3
5. 0.9 x 0.3

IV. Evaluation

Compute for the quotient of the following

1.) 729 ÷ 0.9 2.) 2.73 ÷ 0.03 3.) 112 ÷ 0.16

4.) 48.86 ÷ 0.08 5.) 0.28 ÷ 0.4

V. Assignment

Answer the following problems on page 137
