A Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics V

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the pupils should be able to:
a. visualize, name and describe polygons with 5 or more sides
b. classify polygons; and
c. participate actively in class

II. Subject Matter

A. Topic: Polygons

B. Reference 21st Century Mathletes

PP 210 -

C. Materials blackboard, student textbook, LCD Screen

III. Procedure Teacher’s Activity Pupil’s Activity

A. Preparatory Activities

1. Preliminary Activities

 Prayer
Everybody stand up (A pupil will lead the prayer)

 Greetings
Good morning class!
How’s your day? Good morning Sir!
We’re fine Sir!
 Energizer
Really? Let’s see if you are, to make
you more active and alert, let’s have an
energizer.
(Teacher will play a short video) (Pupils will dance together with their teacher)

 Classroom management
Grade V, take your seat and arrange
your chairs. Then, pick up all the pieces
of papers you’ll see Thank you Sir!

 Checking of attendance
Is there any absentee for today?

Very good! Nobody is absent today Sir

2. Drill

The figure below are pieces of an ancient

Chinese puzzle called Tangram. This puzzle
will amaze you because if you use the seven
pieces of shapes together, you can form an
infinite number of various types of figures (the students will create the shape)

Based on the shapes above ask your students

to create the sample shapes on your math
book.

Which figure is easiest to make?

Try making a figure on your own

3. Review
Before we proceed to our new lesson, again Our last lesson sir is about Base, percentage,
class what is our last lesson? and rate

Let me see if you still remember our past

lesson.

Are you ready?

(The teacher will post their past activity on the
board)

4. Motivation
Class lets watch a short video about Polygons.

Are you ready?

(The teacher will present a short video)

B. Developmental Activities

1. Presentation

Our lesson for today is about Polygons.

First let’s define what is polygon.
A polygon is a closed plane figure made up of
several line segments that are joined together.

Line segments the sides of the polygons

Yes, Sir

Is it clear class?

Okay let’s proceed

Classification and Diagonals of a Polygon

 Convex and Non Convex

If the line segments connecting/joining two
nonconsecutive vertices lie entirely inside the
polygon, then the polygon is convex

If the line segments produced by the

nonconsecutive vertices lies outside the
polygons, then the polygon is non-convex.

 Classification according to the number of

sides
Number of Name of Polygon
sides
3 Triangle
4 Quadrilateral
5 Pentagon
6 Hexagon
7 Heptagon
8 Octagon
9 Nonagon
10 Decagon
Yes, Sir!
Is clear class?

Diagonals – is a line segment whose

endpoints are any two nonconsecutive
vertices of the polygon.

Line segments such as AE and AF are called

diagonals. We name the diagonals using the
two endpoints Yes! Sir!

Understand class?

C. Generalization (a pupil will answer)

Okay class, again what is polygon? (a pupil will answer)

How about vertex, what is vertex?

Correct!

D. Application

Let’s play a game as you can see we have a

roulette here and it has different name of figure,
I also have different shapes here, as the
roulette stope each one of you will identify its
corresponding shapes.
Yes! Sir!

(The pupil will start the activity)

Are you ready?

IV. Evaluation

angles
least five)
