LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE 7

Content Standard: Performance Standard:

The learners demonstrate an The learners shall be able to prepare
understanding of some properties of different concentrations of mixtures
solutions. according to uses and availability of
materials.

I. Learning Competency
 S7MT-Ic-2: Investigate properties of unsaturated or saturated
solutions.

II. Objectives:
1. Define solubility.
2. Identify the factors affecting solubility.
3. Recognize the importance of solutions.
4. Understand the value of cooperation and inductive reasoning.

III. Learning Content

a. Topic : Factors Affecting Solubility
b. Reference : Science Learner’s Material, pp. 12-14
c. Materials : Chalk and Board, PowerPoint Presentation

IV. Learning Procedure

A. Preliminary Activities
 Prayer
 Greetings
 PEACE CHECK (Classroom Rules and Regulations)
 Checking of attendance
*Indicator 5*
 Review
 The students will play a game “Pick-a-Door”. In this game, they
will choose a door and each door has question on it which is all
about the previous lessons that we had discussed. They need
to answer the question based on their own understanding.
*Indicator 2*

B. Motivation
 The teacher will demonstrate on how solubility happens. Then, she
will ask the students about the activities in which there is an
application of solubility.

C. Lesson Proper

1. Activity
 The students will watch a video clip about baking (topic in TLE) and
let the students identify the 7 tips in effective baking and how they
are related to solution and solubility.
 They will also take down important notes while watching the video.
They need also to listen and understand what the video clip is all
about to answer the guided questions after the said activity.
*Indicator 1*

2. Analysis
 After watching the video about Tips on Effective Baking, the students
will answer the following questions:
1. What is the video clip all about?
2. What are the 7 tips/factors needed in effective baking?
3. Why is baking related to the topics about solution and
solubility?
*Indicator 1 and 3*

3. Abstraction
 Based on the answers of the students, the teacher will explain that
like in baking, there are also important factors that can affect the
solubility of any solute in a solvent. These are the following:
a. Stirring
 Stirring the solution will let the solvent particles come in
contact faster with the corners and edges of solute particles. It
also speeds up the rate of dissolving because it helps distribute
the solute particles throughout the solvent. Therefore, the
solute dissolves faster.
b. Particle Size
 Decreasing the size of the particles, which make up a given
weight, will increase the number of particles represented by the
same weight. Smaller particle size results in an increase in the
rate of reaction because the surface area of the reactant has
been increased. Surface area is a measure of the total area that
the surface of the object occupies (MATH).
c. Temperature
 Most solids, like coffee powder, dissolve faster in hot water
than in cold water. At higher temperature, the water particles
move faster and come in contact more frequently with the
solute particles.
d. Kind of Material

 Softer objects dissolve faster than the harder ones because

they are easily to break apart.
 There will be a student demonstration in this part to show individual
engagement or participation.
*Indicator 1 and 4*

4. Application

 The students will be grouped into three. Each group will show and
explain the importance of solutions in our everyday lives. Their
presentation should be in a creative way.

Group 1: Singing Bee

 The members of the group will compose a song about the topic
given and will sing it in front of the class.

Group 2: Akoy Tutula!

 The members of the group will create a poem about the topic
and will recite it in front of the class.

Group 3: Ikwembot Mo!

 The members of the group will show a dance step about the
topic. They will use any dance music they want.
*Indicator 6*

 The performance of the students will be graded using the rubric

below.

V. Evaluation
 The students will answer the following questions:
1. Which process/processes affect the speed of dissolving?
a. stirring only
b. particle size, temperature, stirring, nature of solute
c. particle size only

d. type of the container used

2. Most solute dissolves faster in a solvent when the temperature is increased.
Which solvent/solute listed below is an exemption to this rule?
a. water/coffee powder
b. copper/zinc
c. water/sugar
d. water/salt
3. Which factor would not affect the rate solubility of sugar in water?
a. Heat the water and sugar
b. Stir the water and sugar
c. Grind the sugar to make it finer.
d. Add the sugar to the water.
4.Which of the following will greatly affect the solubility of solid at room
temperature?
a. thickness b. color c. particle size d. texture
5. Imagine that you performed an experiment in which you dissolve different
samples of sugar (sugar cubes, extra fine sugar and regular table sugar) into water
samples to compare how long they took to dissolve. Which factor would be the least
important to the design of this experiment?
a. the same amount of sugar must be used in each sample.
b. all the samples must be tested at the same time of the day.
c. the water samples must be all at the same temperature.
d. the sugar samples must all contain only sugar and water.
