Homework: Second and third conditionals

Objective: The student is able to recognize the context which he/she must talk about imagine
present and future situations, or to express the past consequences of an unrealistic action or
situation in past.

Writing Activity

Complete the second conditional sentences:

1. If I won the lottery, I would help my family.

2. If I had only one day to live, I would gather my family to pray God.

3. If I were famous, I would like to be like Shakira.

4. If I were the president, I would change the laws that protect children.

5. If I were an animal, I would be a dog.

6. If I couldn’t speak, I wouldn't win the exam.

7. If I lived in a big city like London, I would visit Tower Bridge

8. If I had an accident, I would be sore.

Activity: Prepare the answers for the following questions:

1. What would you have done if you had been the leader of the country during?

Answer: If I had been the leader of Colombia, I would have given aid to the disabled.

2. What would your second choice for a university or degree subject have been? How would
your life be different now if you had done that instead?

Answer: If I had chosen to study at an early age, I would be an accountant

3. What would you have done in your last holiday if time, money etc had been no limit? How
could that have changed your life?

Answer: If I had had time and money, I would have traveled with my family to different places in
Colombia.

4. How would your life have been different if you had been born a girl/ boy?

Answer: If I had been born a man, I would have lost the opportunity to give life to my daughters.

5. How would your country be different if someone different had won the last election?
Answer: If another president had won, I don't know if we would be better or worse.

6. If you could change one thing about your body or personality, what would it be?

Answer: If I could change anything about myself, I would go from being anxious to being patient.

7. What would you do if you knew that the world was going to be hit by a comet and
destroyed in one week?

Answer: I would be all the time with my family.

8. How would you have made … a success rather than a failure?

Answer: If I had completed my professional studies when I was young, I would be in a better job.

9. What things could make you emigrate?

Answer: If I had to emigrate to another country, it would be because of unemployment and the
lack of opportunities as a self-employed worker.

10. What would you do if you saw a UFO?

Answer: If I saw a UFO, I would faint.
