2. .Gyeongbokgung Palace
Built in 1395, Gyeongbokgung Palace is often referred to as the Northern Palace because it is the
northernmost palace when compared to other palaces, such as Changdeokgung (Eastern Palace) and
Gyeonghuigung (Western Palace). Gyeongbokgung Palace is arguably the most beautiful and largest of
the five palaces.
It was destroyed by fire during the Imjin War (1592-1598). However, all the palace buildings were
restored under the leadership of Heungseondaewongun during the reign of King Gojong (1852-1919).
Remarkably, the buildings most representative of the Joseon dynasty, the Gyeonghoeru Pavilion and the
pond surrounding the Hyangwonjeong Pavilion, are relatively intact. The raised dias and stone markers of
the Geunjeongjeon display an art style representative of its time. The National Palace Museum of Korea
is located outside Heungnyemun Gate, while the National Folk Museum is located on the east side of
Hyangwonjeong Pavilion.
- Things to do :
If you go to Gyeongbokgung Palace, you have to rent a hanbok and go around the palace.
1. Beef bowl
Gyūdon or beef bowl is a donburi-type Japanese food in the form of a bowl of white rice topped
with sliced beef belly and onions cooked with soy sauce and sugar.
- Things to do
Tteokbokki (Korean: 떡 볶 이 ) is a Korean dish of rice flour cooked in a spicy and sweet
gochujang marinade. The rice flour used is in the form of elongated round sticks. It is also an
international dish. The spices used in this dish can be said to be a little familiar to people's
tongues.
Originally, this food originated from the Joseon Dynasty palace cuisine called gungjung
tteokbokki. At that time, it was huintteok cooked in soy sauce with beef, bagogari, sprouts, green
beans, parsley, shiitake, carrots, and onions. It tastes much different from the chili-spiced
tteokbokki known today. In addition, the tteok used can be of 5 colors that symbolize Korea,
namely red, yellow, white, black, and blue.
- Things to do
Eat with odeng, kimchi, and fried foods to make it more delicious
