GENERAL INFORMATION
1. Each candidate should have the following for this examination:

Traditional Drawing Method

Two sheets of drawing paper (both sides may be used)


Drawing instruments
Drawing board and tee square
Metric scale rule

Computer-Aided Drafting Method

A minimum of six sheets of size 8½” x 11” OR three sheets of size 11” x 17” paper
Personal computer with monitor, keyboard, mouse and printer
Computer-Aided Drafting software

N.B. ALL solutions to questions attempted for this Option MUST be PRINTED for submission.

2. All dimensions are given in millimetres unless otherwise stated.

3. When first-angle or third-angle is not specified, the choice of projection is left to the candidate’s
discretion, in which case the type of projection used MUST be clearly stated.

4. Each candidate should use his/her own judgement to supply any dimensions or other details not
directly shown on the drawings.

5. The number of each question answered MUST be written next to the solution.

6. Each candidate MUST enter his/her school code and registration number in the appropriate space
at the bottom right-hand corner of the drawing paper.

BUILDING DRAWING

This paper has TWO sections: Section I, Working Drawing and Section II, Sketch and Design OR
3D Solid Model Design Drawing.

Answer ONE question from Section I, Working Drawing and ONE question from Section II, Sketch
and Design OR 3D Solid Model Design Drawing.

Candidates MAY use EITHER the Traditional Drawing Method OR the Computer-Aided Drafting
Method.
SECTION I – WORKING DRAWING

Answer ONE question.


Do NOT spend more than 2½ hours on this question.

1. Figure 1, on the enclosed sheet, shows the line diagram of the outline of a two-bedroom floor
plan to be built as a holiday cottage in a seaside island resort. The building is to be covered with
a gable roof as indicated by the broken outline on the line diagram.

The building consists of two bedrooms, one bathroom, living/dining area, kitchen, laundry area,
back patio and front porch.

(a) Draw, to a scale of 1:50, the completed floor plan to include:


(i) Wall thicknesses
(ii) Kitchen appliances, base cabinets and work triangle
(iii) All doors and windows
(iv) Bathroom and laundry fixtures
(v) Names of all rooms
(vi) Ten external dimensions to indicate room sizes
(vii) Two overall external dimensions

(b) Using the outline of the roof as indicated on the floor plan, draw to a scale of 1:10 a
TYPICAL roof anchorage detail for this type of roof to include:

(i) Ring/perimeter beam


(ii) Wall plate
(iii) Rafters
(iv) Laths
(v) Hurricane straps

NOTE: Label ALL main construction members and show sizes.

Print a suitable title and the scale used at the base of EACH drawing.

Dimensions NOT given are left to candidatesʼ discretion.

2. The outline of a two-bedroom floor plan to be built as a vacation villa in a seaside island resort
is given in Figure 1, on the enclosed sheet. The building is to be covered with a gable roof as
indicated by the broken outline on the line diagram.

(a) Draw, to a scale of 1:50, the cross-section marked ʻA – Aʼ to include:

(i) Foundation
(ii) Floor
(iii) Walls
(iv) Roof
(v) Vertical dimensions, one of which MUST be the finished floor to ceiling dimension.
(vi) Show at LEAST ten labels with sizes

Show clearly ALL sectional construction details.

(b) Draw, to a scale of 1:50, the elevation marked ʻBʼ to include:

(i) Window and door positions


(ii) Roof outline and fascia board
(iii) Three vertical dimensions, one of which MUST be finished floor to ring beam

Print a suitable title and the scale used at the base of EACH drawing.

Dimensions not given are left to the candidates’ discretion.
