What happens to a cell, like red blood cell, when it loses its nucleus?
Losing the nucleus makes it possible for the red blood cell to hold more oxygen-carrying hemoglobin,
which increases blood flow and speeds up metabolism by allowing more oxygen to be carried in the
blood.
“Red blood cells develop in the bone marrow and get rid of their nuclei before being released into the
circulating bloodstream. Nucleated red blood cells can be present in an example of newborn babies, but
after this period, their presence is usually a bad sign - it either means there is some damage or disruption
to the bone marrow allowing immature red blood cells to be released far too early, that the bone marrow
is struggling to produce red blood cells fast enough, or that red blood cell production is occurring
somewhere it shouldn’t - which can be a sign of cancer. “
All in all, the absence of nucleus to a cell just like our red blood cell can cause harm to our body because
it may lead us to a fatal disease or sickness.
