What – explain what happened?

On July 27, 1991, Clauddine Blanchard also known as Dee Dee Blanchard gave birth to a healthy
daughter – Gypsy Rose Blanchard. At a young age, Gypsy was later diagnosed with leukemia, asthma,
vision and hearing impairment, muscular dystrophy, and seizures. In the public eyes Dee Dee and Gypsy
were seen as the iconic mother and daughter duo. Dee Dee was praised as a loving mother supporting
her disable daughter and Gypsy was praised on being a fighter due to all her illnesses; however, this was
farther from the truth. Dee Dee fooled everyone into believing that Gypsy was suffering from all her
“diagnosed illnesses.” Gypsy was even manipulated into believing she had all those illnesses. It is unclear
why Dee Dee would lie about her daughter’s health. One theory is that Dee Dee suffered from
Munchausen Syndrome By Proxy – a mental illness in which a caregiver fakes symptoms to make it look
like a child is sick. This mental illness is a form of child abuse. Another theory is that Dee Dee wanted to
receive sympathy and financial assistance from the community. As Gypsy got older, she was tired of
being under Dee Dee’s abuse and wanted to find a way to escape her. In 2015, Gypsy arranged for her
online boyfriend, Nick Godejohn to help her execute the planned murder of Dee Dee. In 2016, Gypsy
was pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and sentenced to 10 years in prison. Gypsy is set to be
released on December 28th, 2023.
