4. Text book, title, author, and year
[1]. Mechanical driving system design, Trinh Chat, Le Van Uyen, 2006 (Translate
Vietnamese to English)
a. other supplemental materials
[1] Design of Machinery, Nguyen Huu Loc, 2010 (Translate Vietnamese to English)
[2]. Mechanical part design, Nguyen Trong Hiep, Nguyen Van Lam, 2009(Translate
Vietnamese to English).
5. Specific course information
b. brief description of the content of the course (catalog description)
- Calculate the required power, the preliminary number of turns and select the
engine.
- Calculate to design belt or chain transmission.
- Calculate to design the gearbox.
- Calculate to design axial.
- Select rollers/ bearings.
- Make assembly drawings.
c. prerequisites or co-requisites
Students have to study Technical Drawings, Statics, Dynamics, Strength of material,
Tolerance, Elements of machine.
d. indicate whether a required, elective, or selected elective (as per Table 5-1) course
in the program
This is a required course.
6. Specific goals for the course
a. specific outcomes of instruction, ex. The student will be able to explain the
significance of current research about a particular topic.
On completing this course, students will be able to:
1. Apply knowledge of material strength, theoretical mechanics (statics,
dynamics) and machine elements in the design of gear units, belt or chain
transmission and shaft.
2. Choose the materials that meet the requirements: mechanical, physical and
chemical properties, and technological characteristics.
3. Draw the assembly drawings from calculation parameters with less than 5 basic
errors
4. More than 80% of references are properly looked up. The number of references
is not less than that specified. The citation regulations are strictly followed in the
technical reports.
b. explicitly indicate which of the student outcomes listed in Criterion 3 or any other
outcomes are addressed by the course.
The relationship between Course Outcomes and Student Outcomes is shown in the
following table:

CLOs 1 2 3 4 5
1 1-4
2 2-3
3 3-5
4 3-4
According to the mapping table, the courses cover outcomes 1, 2, and 3 of Student
Outcomes in Criteria 3.
2. Brief list of topics to be covered
- Calculate the required power of the engine, calculate the primarily number of
revolutions, select the number of revolutions of the engine, distribute the transmission
ratio, calculate the number of revolutions on the shaft and calculate the torque of the
axes.
- Calculate external transmission, belt or chain.
- Calculate axes. Calculate gear transmission: straight tooth - cylindrical gear, inclined
tooth- cylindrical gear, bevel gear with straight tooth
- Select rollers/ bearings.
- Make assembly drawings, select tolerances for assembly.
