PMRE 6006 Final Oct 2023 - Takehome
Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology Final Exam, October 2023 Semester
Roll:
Make sure that your work can be followed clearly on the plot. Also, mention the figures,
tables etc where appropriate.
1. Consider 2 wells 50 ft apart. Well#A flows at 50 STB/D for 8 hours, then the rate is
increased to 80 STB/D. Well#B flows at 70 STB/D for 7 hours, and then the rate is
decreased to 25 STB/D. Following data are known:
k = 80 md h = 30 ft Ø = 0.30 μ = 1.5 cp ct = 1 X 10-5 /psi
Bo = 1.2 RB/STB pi = 2000 psia
Well A: rw = 0.5 ft s = +4 Well B: rw = 0.4 ft s = +2
a. Sketch the system with appropriate pressures and rates versus time [10]
b. Estimate the pressure at well A after 9 hours [10]
2. Well#A is located at 300 ft west from a sealing fault which runs along the north-south
direction. Well#B is located 800 ft away straight north from Well#A. Well#C is located
200 ft away from the fault, on the eastern side, and at the same latitude as that of Well#B.
Following data are available: [4 X 10 = 40]
A 1,000 0.5 +4
B 800 0.3 +2
C 1,200 0.5 -2
The formation on both side of the fault is homogeneous, isotropic, and having the same
properties. Following data are known about the reservoir:
k = 80 md h = 30 ft Ø = 0.30 μ = 1.5 cp ct = 1 X 10-5 /psi
Bo = 1.2 RB/STB pi = 3,000 psia
Assume that the production statred in all the wells at the same time, answer the following:
a. Make a sketch of the system
b. What will be the pressure at Well#A after 100 hours of production?
c. What will be the pressure at Well#B after 100 hours of production?
d. What will be the pressure at Well#C after 100 hours of production?

7. An oil well is producing at a constant flow rate of 300 STB/day under unsteady-state flow
conditions. The reservoir has the following rock and fluid properties:
Permebility, k mD 60
Porosity (φ), % 15
8. Calculate the pressure at radii of 0.25, 5, 10, 50, 100, 500, 1000, 1500, 2000, and 2500 ft,
for 1 hour. Plot the results as: (a) pressure vs. the logarithm of radius; (b) pressure vs.
radius. [50]
9. Repeat part 1 for t 5 12 and 24 hours. Plot the results as pressure vs. logarithm of radius.
[50]
10. Calculate the skin factor resulting from the invasion of the drilling fluid to a radius of 2 ft.
The permeability of the skin zone is estimated at 20 md as compared with the unaffected
formation permeability of 60 md. The wellbore radius is 0.25 ft.
