Day 1
Performs addition and subtraction of 2-digit numbers fluently using flexible strategies of
composition and decomposition
Introduce concept of backwards using jumping game to jump 1 step backward and so on.
Ask few volunteers for this.
Teacher demo of counting backwards using fingers to explain numbers counted backwards
+ examples
Can use a video on backward counting to revise the concept. Video in reference folder
1. To introduce concept of backward counting, you can draw a number line (1-10)
on the floor.
2. You may invite one student at a time to stand on the number line and instruct him/her to
jump one step forward, two steps backward and so on.
3. You may repeat step 2 with 2-3 students.
4. You can explain that counting backwards can also
be done using fingers and hold up both your hands to explain that each finger represents a
number. 5. You may demonstrate
counting backwards from 10 to 1 using your fingers and encourage students to count along
with you. 6. You may play CRL-Backward
Counting to reinforce the concept of backward counting.
Pg 116 of CB
Day 2
Performs addition and subtraction of 2-digit numbers fluently using flexible
strategies of composition and decomposition
Can use any items to show taking away and find what is left. Teacher to
demonstrate this.
Use video CRL to recap this method (Can use CRL-1) + some questions solved
together
Pg 117 of CB
Day 4
Performs addition and subtraction of 2-digit numbers fluently using flexible
strategies of composition and decomposition
Draw number line and students jump backwards based on the question. Every
student to get a turn doing this or they jump in pairs to save time.
