STATISTICS FOR ENGINEERS

DIGITAL ASSIGNMENT 2

DATASET ATTACHED (PREDICTIVE MANAGEMENT)

Collect a large sample of data and analyse about the population from the large
sample using Z-test. At least two tests mustbe performed (Testof single mean,
difference in means, single proportion, difference in proportion). It can
either be done manually or using R-code.The document can be written or
typed.

ONE SAMPLE TEST

TEST FOR SINGLE MEAN:

i) Left tail or Lower tail

QUESTION 1:

Suppose a industry claims that the mean of prediction is less than 41 Nm. In a
sample of 10000 UDI, it was found that they only predicts 39.98691 on an
average. Assume the predictive management, standard deviation of torque is
9.968934 Nm. At 0.05 significance level, test predict by theTorque? Check
whether it accepts or rejects?
Given:

n = 10000, x¯ = 39.98691, σ = 9.968934, α = 0.05

H0 : µ = 41 against H1 : µ < 41

MEAN:
Interpretation:

The test statistic -10.16247 is less than the critical value -1.644854. So, we reject the null hypothesis.
Hence, at 5% significance level, we accept the claim that the mean prediction of Torque is less than
41Nm.

ii) Right tail or Upper tail:

QUESTION 2:

Suppose the Process temperature of management is found that there is at least

299 K. In a sample of 10000 UDI, it is found that the mean of Process
temperature is 310.0056 K. Assume that the standard deviation of Process
temperature is 1.483734. At 0.05 significance level, test the claim on Process
temperature of predictive management ? Check whether it accepts or rejects?
Given n = 10000, x¯ = 310.0056, σ =1.483734 , α = 0.05 H0 : µ = 299 against H1 : µ > 299

AVERAGE:
Interpretation:
The test statistic 741.7502 is greater than the critical value 1.644854. So, we reject the null
hypothesis. Hence, at 5% significance level, we accept the claim that there is at least 299K of Process
temperature in an industry.

TEST FOR SINGLE PROPORTION:

QUESTION 1:

i)Left tail or Lower tail test:

Suppose 60 % of Torque is used in last prediction. 333 out of 10000 UDI in an

industrial survey said that they used in the current prediction. A 0.05
significance level, test the hypothesis that the proportion of predictors in the
industry is below 60 % this year?

Interpretation:
The test statistic -115.6772 is more than the critical value -1.644854. So, we accept the null
hypothesis. Hence, at 5% significance level, there is no evidence to prove that the proportion
of predictors in the industry is below 60% this year.
