QUESTION ONE (30 MARKS)

a) Describe Robert Merger (1962) ABCD Model of instructional objectives using learning area
in one of your teaching subjects. (5 marks)
b) Using one of your teaching subjects describe how you can maximize on the following modes
of grasping experience as posited by Kolb's learning theory. (4 marks)
i) Concrete Experience (CE)
ii) Abstract Conceptualization (AC)
c) With reference to Competence Based Curriculum (CBC) illustrate the key areas of emphasis
of paradigm shift in the curriculum reforms. (5 marks)

d) Use five reasons to justify why teachers usually fall back to expository strategies in teaching
and learning process. (5 marks)

e) During pedagogical process explain five reasons to show the importance of the teacher
sustaining learners' motivation in class. (5 marks)
f) The Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD) has emphasized more on curriculum
designs than making syllabus as has been the practice in various learning areas. Exemplify six
common features of curriculum design as found in all learning areas. (6 marks)

a) The Basic Education Curriculum Framework (BECF) highlights seven core competencies that
the curriculum is expected to impart on learners. Using one of your teaching subjects relate
any five competencies to the learning area. (10 marks)
b) Analyze five situations that can inhibit effective classroom communication and demonstrate
how you can overcome them. (10 marks)

a) In pedagogical process elucidate five merits of the formative assessment to the teacher.

b) The school is an open system whose functional elements are interdependent. Justify this
statement with reference to school as a system. (10 marks)

a) Sketch the template below in your answer booklet and use it to create a 40-minute
learner-centered lesson plan for any topic in your subject area. The lesson should focus
