DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE 10

I. LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson the students should be able to:
A. Identify the basic parts of AC and DC generator and their functions;
B. Learn how to conserve electricity; and
C. Draw how AC and DC generator works
II. SUBJECT MATTER
Topic: Nature of Electromagnetic Waves
Materials: Powerpoint, TV, Chalk, Cartolina and Illustrations, Laptop
Reference: Pavico et.al. (2019) Exploring Life Through Science- Second Edition
III. LEARNING PROCEDURE
TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENT’S ACTIVITY
A. PRELIMINARY ACTIVITIES
a. Prayer
May we all stand and let us feel the
presence of our almighty father. Who can
lead the prayer?
(A student leads the prayer)
b. Greetings
Good morning class!”
Good morning, ma’am
c. Classroom Management
Before you take your seats kindly arrange
your chairs properly and go back to your
proper seats. Let me remind you with our
class rules which to be followed along
our discussion. Kindly, read it class.
 Listen when somebody is talking
 Don’t be shy to share your answer or
opinions
 Raise your right hand if you want to
recite
 Work cooperatively and harmoniously
d. Checking of attendance
Is anyone absent class?
None, ma’am
e. Review
Who can give me a recap about our topic
last meeting?
Ma’am, our topic last meeting is all about
electromagnetic induction ma’am
Okay very good (name of the student). Now
what is electromagnetic induction?
Is a phenomenon where in a changing
magnetic field induced electric current.
Excellent!
You really had listened to our previous
lesson and it deserves a ang galing clap.
Ang galing clap
Do you have any questions regarding our
topic last meeting?
None, ma’am
B. MOTIVATION (3 minutes)
“What’s the word?”
Flash a picture of a generator and let the students
guess its name.

What is the name of the picture that I have flashed

on the TV screen?
Generator ma’am
C.PRESENTATION
One of the most common application of EM
induction is generator so this will be our lesson
today.

D. DISCUSSION
Can anyone tell me what is generator?
Answers may vary
 Generator converts mechanical energy into
electrical energy. It is sometimes called an
alternator
Generator converts mechanical to__?
Electrical energy
Very good!
Who is Hippolyte Pixie?
French scientist and Credited for having
made the first electric generator in 1832.
Great answer!
What are the two types of generator?
AC and DC ma’am

So, AC means alternating current and DC means

direct current
Now, let us study the parts of a generator.
Basic parts of a generator:
1. Armature-Consists of coils of insulated wire
wound around a soft iron core. It is attached to a
shaft so that it can rotate between the poles of the
magnet.
2. Shaft-It is where the armature attach so that it
can rotates to the poles of a magnet
3. Two slip rings-Circular metal conductors. Made
of either brass or copper.Connected to the ends or
external circuits of the armature so that they rotate
with it.The slip rings always keep the wire
connected to the same side of the electric circuit.
This mechanism causes the direction of the current
to alternately change its direction in the circuit.
4. Electromagnet (or permanent magnet) provide
the magnetic field
5. Two brushes-It delivers the induced electric
current to an external circuit through the slip rings
What is the function of the armature class? It produced current when it was rotated

Can an AC generator may also be used to produce

direct current (DC)? Yes, ma’am

It is absolutely yes, by replacing the two slip rings

with a commutator, a ring broken into two halves
insulated from each other.
Let’s move on to the parts of DC generator.
1. Commutator- a ring broken into two halves
insulated from each other
2. Brush-keep the split ring’s or commutator
surface clean, smooth, and protected
How AC and DC generator work?
AC- works by producing alternating current while
DC works by producing one direction current
flow.
E. APPLICATION
Oral Questioning:
Situation: Imagine that you’re watching your
favorite program on TV and on the next minute you’re
groping in the dark because of power interruption. At
such time, you may have wished you had a candle or a
flashlight so that you could see in the dark. How can
you make a steady flow of electricity?

F. GENERALIZATION
1. What is generator?
2. What are the two types of generator?
3. What are the basic parts of AC and DC
generator?

G. EVALUATION
Identification:
1. Who is credited for inventing the first
generator?

Hippolyte Pixie
2. What law governs the operation of generator?

Faraday’s law
3. It is a type of generator that has slip rings

AC
4. It is a type of generator that has split rings

DC
5. Who is the proponent of Faraday’s law?

H. ASSIGNMENT
Essay: Place it in 1/2 sheet of paper.
1. What is the importance of generator during
power outage? Give at least 5 examples
