Mixed Waves

Longitudinal Wave: Normally longitudinal waves made of rarefacons and compressions. The medium
or the channel moves in the same direcon with respect to the wave direcon. It cannot be polarized.
It can be produced in any medium such as gas, liquid, or solid. Example: Sound wave

Transverse Wave: Transverse waves consist of troughs and crests. The medium or the channel moves
perpendicular to the direcon of the wave direcon. It can be easily polarized and can be produced in
solid and liquid’s surface. Example: Wave in a string, Electromagnec waves
