INTRODUCTION:
In the healthcare industry , where precise timing and coordination are crucial for patient
care and safety , the application of PERT and CPM becomes even more significant. For
instances , in the construction of new hospital , PERT and CPM can help in identifying
and sequencing various tasks such as site preparation , building construction,
equipment installation and regulatory approvals. Similarly in implementing a new health
information system, these techniques can aid in planning activities like system design ,
software development , testing , training and integration with existing infrastructure
Moreover PERT and CPM enable project managers to assess the impact of potential
delays or changes on project timelines by simulating different scenarios and adjusting
task durations or dependencies , managers can evaluate the flexibility of project
schedules and make informed decisions to mitigate risks
Project Evaluation and Review technique (PERT) and (CPM) are powerful tools widely
used in project management , including within the healthcare sector . Whether its
constructing new hospital facility or implementing a sophisticated health information
system
Overall the application of PERT and CPM in healthcare project management provide
structured approach planning , scheduling and controlling activities ultimately leading to
more efficient and successful project outcomes while ensuring the delivery of high
quality patient care
Explanation
Table showing Earliest finish and Latest start , Float or slack are
computed and shown in the table

Float or slack of an activity is the amount by which an activity could be rescheduled


without increasing the project duration .For all critical activities float is zero i.e. they
could not be delayed . There are generally three measure of float which are generally
used in computations. These are total float ,free float and independent float . let us
consider the three measure of float in case of fragement of the network of the
vaccination programme

The critical path is shown through bold arrows i.e A- D- K-N-P-Q-U-V-W and the total
expected duration of the project comes out to be 99 days . Two times compulations i.e.
the earliest start and latest start are shown on the network . The remaining two i.e.
Earliest finish and latest start , flow or slack are computed and shown in the table
The critical path method CPM allows you to calculate the critical path of a project by
showing the necessary order to tasks , the ideal project schedule and possible problems
with resources and scheduling and their corresponding solutions it highlights the crucial
stages where delays can hinder the project or where extra resources can accelerate the
project

CONCLUSION:
PERT method is based on time. It assumes that each project or program is combination
of many activities or jobs These activities are interrelated and depend on certain
dimension . Completion of all activities will only lead to the completion of the project /
programme . The basic philosophy of PERT and CPM is nothing new and much of its
familiar to us . PERT and CPM provides scientific basis for such project planning . It
provides an effective and logical plan for the implementation of activities and the
planning of resources necessary for implementation of activities
