The first book of the seven-book Harry Potter series came to the bookstores in 1997. Since
then, bookstores have sold more than 250 million copies of the first books in the series. These
books are available in more than 200 countries and in more than 60 languages.
When a new Harry Potter book arrives in the bookstores, it is always a big event. Usually, the
first books are sold at the magic hour of midnight. Stores that usually close at 6:00 P.M. stay
open late for the special event. People wait in line for hours, sometimes days, to buy a book.
Many children and even some adults put on costumes to look like their favorite characters in
the book.
