Dear Parents

The following information about our Academic Scholarship may be of interest to you :

1. These scholarships are awarded on academic merit and your son will be required to write a scholarship
examination. This examination comprises English and Maths tests, as well as a short paper designed to test
problem-solving skills. General all-round ability, including sporting and leadership ability, as well as cultural
or community involvement are also taken into account. While the academic scholarship exam is open to
everyone, experience has shown that successful candidates are boys who are top achievers (ie 80 – 90% in all
subjects) at their primary schools. We only award between two to five academic scholarships a year.

2. Awards are made for the full five years of a boy's high school career, subject to continued diligence and
general participation in school life.

3. An administrative fee of R50,00 is levied on each pupil entering for the Academic Scholarship. The fee may
be deposited directly into the Rondebosch Boys’ High School bank account at Standard Bank (Rondebosch
branch – code 02 50 09). The account number is 071483098. Please ensure that the words ‘Scholarship’
and your son’s name and surname are written clearly on the proof of payment which should be emailed to
alison.vanrensburg@rondebosch.com. Alternatively you may pay in cash at the Bursars’ Office (Monday to
Friday, 08h00 – 15h00).

4. If you are interested in entering your son for the Academic Scholarship, the information on the Application
Form will help the Scholarship Board considerably in coming to a decision. It is in your own interests to
complete it in as much detail as possible. Please submit the form (https://forms.gle/dwS8FDyURAA3jKwa8)
no later than Friday 21 February 2020. Hard copies of the form are available from the school.

5. We reserve the right to limit the number of pupils attempting the examination. However, unless you hear
from us to the contrary, please assume that your son’s application to write the examination has been
accepted.

6. Candidates should be in school uniform and are to report, with appropriate writing equipment (please note
that no calculators/Maths sets are allowed) to the Gymnasium, RBHS, by 2.45 pm on SATURDAY 29
FEBRUARY. The exam will finish at 17h15.

7. Please note that writing the exam does not commit you to accepting a place at RBHS, nor does it guarantee
acceptance.

Yours sincerely
