A teacher’s ethical stance will govern how he or she instructs and assesses students. Ethics
also will play a role in how a teacher interacts with students, with colleagues, with
administrators and with the community at large. While ethics may not be the first
consideration in identifying our favorite teachers, we see the derivatives of a teacher’s ethical
stance in our selection.
The teachers in college education should have the right mix of skills, knowledge and attitudes
in the
discipline and need to know the recent developments in the discipline. The concern of
teaching is
not only to pass the skills, knowledge and attitudes to young adults but also to stimulate their
thinking
and imagination so that they can use those, solve real-world problems and create new skills,
knowledge
and attitudes

Teachers accept and treat learners as unique human beings. Teachers respect the rights of
learners and react to them humanely and fairly.

Teachers try to understand the learners’ starting point, thoughts and opinions. Teachers
considerately handle matters linked to the learner’s personality and privacy. Teachers pay
special attention to learners who require care and protection and do not, under any
circumstances, tolerate bullying or the abuse of other people.

Teachers’ work also includes teaching learners to co-operate and to become good members of
society. Building up confidence and good relationships is part of teachers’ work.

The principles ethics in teaching are identified as:

 Learners at the centre.
 The social nature of learning.
 Emotions are integral to learning.
 Recognising individual differences.
 Stretching all students.
 Assessment for learning.
 Building horizontal connections.
