LESSON Teacher Nimrod M. Carolino Learning Area Mathematics

PLAN Date/Time January 26, 2024 Quarter First

Day 3

I. OBJECTIVES

A. Content
Standards The learner demonstrates an understanding of key concepts of sequences.

B. Performance
The learner can formulate and solve problems involving sequences in different disciplines through
Standards appropriate and accurate representations.
C. MELC Solves problems involving sequences.

D. Learning At the end of the lesson, learners are expected to:

Objectives
1.Solve problems involving arithmetic series

II. Content

A. Learning
Resources

1. Teacher’s Guide

2. Learner’s Material

3. Additional
Materials from LR
portal

Other Learning
Resources

III. PROCEDURES

A. Preliminary The teacher will do the following:

Activities
 Greetings
 Prayer
 Arranging of chairs and picking of trash
 Checking of Attendance

(3 mins)

The teacher will do the following:

 Presentation of lesson objectives

B. Developing
 Review of the previous topic or checking the prior knowledge of the
Activities
learners.

(2 mins)

C. Motivation The motivational activity is entitled “Arrange Me”.

MATHEMA-TEXTTWIST

Arrange the letters to form the longest possible word. The definition is given as a
clue.

ETH MAIICTAR EEEUCNSQ

-sequence with common difference

ETH MAIICTAR RSIEES

-sum of all the terms of arithmetic sequence.

DADGIN

- to put two or more numbers or amounts together to get a total.

MOCNMO FRDEIFECEN

- the difference between every two numbers in an arithmetic sequence.

LEMROPB NGIVSOL

- the process of defining a problem, identifying its root cause, prioritizing and
selecting potential solutions, and implementing the chosen solution.

(5mins)

D. Activity The activity will be groupings. Each group will create a pyramid of cups using the
given styro-cup. The group who will finish first will be declare winner.

(The sytro-cups will be formed into a pyramid)

(5 mins)

E. Analysis Answer the following guide questions:

1. Is there a pattern on the given problems? If there is, describe it.

2. Is there a common ratio or common difference? What is it?

3. Which type of sequence did you form? Why did you say so?
4.How many styro-cups from:

4.1 1st layer to 2nd layer?

4.2 1st layer to 3rd layer?

4.3 2nd layer to 4th layer?

4.4 1st layer to last layer?

5. Can you think of an example of a topic that can be solved using arithmetic
sequence or arithmetic series?

(10mins)

F. Abstraction The teacher will discuss the topic.

STORY OF GAUSS

One day Gauss' teacher asked his class to add together all the
numbers from 1 to 100, assuming that this task would occupy them for
quite a while. He was shocked when young Gauss, after a few seconds
thought, wrote down the answer 5050.

Solution:

50x100= 5050

n
S n = ( a1 + an )
2

100
S100 = ( 1+101 )
2

S100 =50 ( 101 )

S100 =50 ( 101 )

S100 =5050
Pyramid of Cups

a1 is the 1st layer

n is the number of layer

an is the last layer

a1 = 12

n=12

an =1

Solution:

n
S n = ( a1 + an )
2

12
S1 2 = ( 12+1 )
2

S1 2=6 ( 1 3 )

S1 2=78 cups
(15 mins)

G. Application Seatwork:

Find the sum of the cups.

1.First (1st) layer to 4th layer.

2. Third (3rd) layer to 6th layer.

3. If the 14 layers of pyramid of cups has 14 cups on its 1 st layer and the last
layer is one is one, what will be the total number of cups?

(15 mins)

IV. EVALUATION Short Quiz:

Find the sum of:

1. first 50 positive integers

2. multiple of 2 less than 41

(5 mins)

V. ASSIGNMENT

VI. REFLECTION

A. No. of learners
who earned 80%
in the evaluation
B. No. of learners
who require
additional
activities for
remediation

C. Did the remedial

lessons work? No.
of learners who
have caught up
with the lesson

D. No. of learners
who continue to
require
remediation

E. Which of my
teaching strategies
work well? Why
did these work?

F. What difficulties
did I encounter
which my
principal or
supervisor can
help me solve?

G. What innovation
or localized
materials did I
use/discover
which I wish to
share with other
teachers?
