Out and about with Jessica McConnell

Did you know OECU supports over 200 agencies and organizations in Oklahoma? From Guymon to Idabel and everywhere in between we strive to fulfill the financial needs of state employees. A good portion of this task falls to a very busy employee, Jessica McConnell. Jessica travels to agencies across Oklahoma. Not only does she talk about the benefits of OECU, she presents various financial seminars and is available to answer any questions people have. This job isnt a 9-5 job. I get to make visits at

EMPLOYEESPOTLIGHT
6 a.m. before the crews leave for the job site and other days I stop by at 6 p.m. to catch people at shift change, explains Jessica. Thats my favorite part, being there for people. Plus, each day is something different. Jessica spends a lot of time in the car taking in the scenery, but she believes the biggest perk of her job is the food! Thats right, Oklahoma has some of the best restaurants you never knew about and I try to discover them all says Jessica.
Heres a list of Jessicas favorite restaurants (so far): 1. Treats & Treasures Old Fashioned Soda Fountain-Talihina 2. Kumback Caf-Perry 3. Polly Anna Caf-Woodward 4. Sugar Shack Bakery-Elk City 5. Ten Star Pizza Kitchen-Ardmore

IS0%FINANCINGREALLYTHEBESTDEAL
Undoubtedly youve heard about the zero percent financing offers that many auto manufacturers have promoted. Although they seem to be incredible deals and are certainly enticing, you should read the fine print and know the facts before you head to your local dealer. Beware of those teaser rates! Teaser rates have always been offered to drive more business to the dealerships but, all too often, these offers are not beneficial to the buyer. Knowing what to look for, and what questions to ask the dealer, will help you decide if zero percent is the best deal for you. Here are a few of the facts and restrictions that may apply: Almost perfect credit may be needed to qualify for these offers You may be required to give up a manufacturers rebate It could mean shorter terms and larger monthly payments It is usually offered on a limited number of models You may be limited to dealer stock and not be able to choose the exact vehicle you are interested in By using OECUs low percentage rate you are qualified to use any rebates offered by the manufacturers which means, this could be your best deal! With the rebate, you are reducing the amount that you are financing. Therefore, your overall costs may be lower than if you opted for the special factory financing. William has his eye on the target to raise $1 million for Oklahomas sick kids. William Diers is just ten years old, but hes been through more in that short time than most of us will in a full lifetime. In May of 2007 at the age of 5, William was taken to the emergency room for what his parents thought was a case of the flu. His conditioned worsened before doctors determined he had a life threatening case of bacterial pneumonia. At the hospital, he underwent three surgeries before his body shut down. He was on a machine for cardiac and respiratory support and in a drug-induced coma for more than a month. His family feared the worst. But one day during that hospital stay, William woke up, healthy. His frightful ordeal was over and hes been called a miracle child ever since. Now,William wants to take that miracle spirit and help others. He has set a life goal of raising one-million dollars for the Childrens Hospital Foundation, an affiliate of Childrens Miracle Network Hospitals. Through many fund-raising efforts William says he wants to help pay hospital costs for kids who cant afford it.

He said that it only takes 1 million people to donate $1 each to reach his goal. Since theres over 3 million people in Oklahoma, he figures that the odds are pretty good. Or, it would only take 1 person willing to donate $1 million. Either way, he figures its do-able. When you think about the odds he overcame to be here, anything William sets out to do seems reasonable. To learn more about William and his goal visit www.williamsmillion.com. OECU is proud to be part of Credit Union for Kids who support Childrens Miracle Network Hospitals. Last year Oklahoma credit unions raised over $153,000 for Childrens Hospital in Oklahoma City.

TIPSFORSMARTHOLIDAYSHOPPING
With the holiday shopping season just around the corner and more than 55% of web users planning to do their holiday shopping online, here are a few important online shopping safety tips that could prevent your computer from becoming infected and your financial information from being stolen. Unsolicited emails: Scammers love the holidays because they know people are on the web with their wallet open, looking for bargains. While it may be tempting to click on an email link that says, Great Deal on iPads 50% off! Be careful, clicking that link could take you to a compromised site that downloads malware onto your computer or phishes for your credit card credentials. What to do: If the deal looks too good to be true, it probably is. But if youre still tempted, place your cursor over the link (without clicking on it) and check the URL. If you dont recognize the URL, stay far away. Keep in mind malicious links can also come from your closest friend whose computer has been unknowingly compromised. Beware of unsecured Wi-Fi hotspots: If youre a holiday shopper who likes to augment online shopping with actual store browsing like toting your notebook along so you can do quick price comparisons, dont connect to an unknown or unsecure hotspot. This allows hackers to capture any and all data thats flowing to and from the hotspot, enabling them to intercept logins and passwords. to a familiar location that offers a secure Wi-Fi connection. Remember that phishing attacks can happen whether youre on your laptop, tablet or smart phone.
