Propaganda Techniques

Propaganda – Information used to promote or publicize a specific political cause or viewpoint.

Often one-sided information that supports or threatens a particular view.

Emphasizes emotional appeal rather than logical reasoning.

Bandwagon- Persuading consumers by


telling them that others are doing the same
thing

Testimonial Propaganda- When a product is


promoted by using endorsements or
testimonials from famous people or authority
figures.

It may also involve individuals who claim to


have successfully used the product to
achieve their goals.

Repetition - When the product’s name is


repeated at least four times in the ad
Emotional Words- Words that will make a
consumer feel strongly about someone or
something are used.

Name Calling - The use of names that


evoke fear or hatred in the viewer

It links a person, or idea, to a negative


symbol.

The most obvious type of name calling


involved ―bad names. Ex. Racist, dictator,
communist, etc.
