INTRODUCTION

New farming technologies can be a major instrument for achieving economic

development in less developed countries. These countries are characterized by large

rural populations engaged in small-scale farming. Their farmers operate typically under

conditions of low resources, limited technology and low productivity. (Barrow, et al.,

1983)

Over the past two decades, efforts have been made to enhance the productivity

of small farmers through research to develop new technologies. Major successes have

been registered, but an enormous task still lies ahead. Large-scale adoption of new

technologies has taken place, although not all such technologies have been acceptable

to the farmers. What is considered an appropriate technology is subject to sociocultural

and political judgment, and varies between groups of people. To be fully appropriate,

technologies must not only improve productivity, but be acceptable and attractive to

small-scale farmers and enhance the community’s overall social welfare.

The need for assessing the appropriateness of new technologies both on the

farm and in a wider social context is now accepted widely within technology-generating

research institutes. The assessment of technologies can take place at different stages

in their process of generation. In cropping systems research we are interested both in

assessing a technology at the design stage when it is ‘notional’, and later when it has

undergone testing on farmers’ fields for one or more years. Even this subsequent

assessment precedes the possible extension of a technology to wider groups of

farmers. (Barrow, et al., 1983)

According to Eugenia, G. (2021), Agricultural production in the Philippines is

dominated by small-scale farmers. The Agricultural Census of 2012 indicates that close

to 90% of agricultural land holdings are less than three hectares, and most farmers rely

on multiple layers of intermediaries to consolidate and transport their products to final

markets.

Moreover, the dependence of farmers on these marketing channels increases

the further they are from their markets. In these settings, intermediaries often bargain

down prices without passing on the reduction to consumers.

Rotary Tillers are machines used for both primary and secondary Tillage for

cultivating the soil. They use a series of blades that eliminate weeds, relieve

compaction, as it mixes and levels the soil. This agricultural equipment is very powerful

and is used for seedbed preparation. It is Primary and secondary tillage as they break

up, churns and aerates the soil prior to planting. This improves drainage and makes

your ground ideal for growing vegetables and row crops.

These machines are ideal for cash crop farmers who are looking to bury and

incorporate crop residues and trash efficiently and quickly between harvesting and

planting.

STATEMENTS OF THE PROBLEM

The study aims to determine the effects of the modern rotor machines to the

selected famers in the selected places in South Cotabato.

Specifically, the study aims to answer the following questions:

1. To what extend do the familiarity of the farmers about the modern rotor machines

in terms of:

a. Usage

b. Troubleshooting

c. The maintenance of the over all parts of rotor machine specially in cleaning

2. What recommendations can be made to address the basic knowledge of the

farmers about the modern rotor machines in terms of basic using,

troubleshooting and maintenance of the rotor machine?

3. To determine the effects of the modern rotor machines to the selected farmers in

Norala, Surallah, and Sto. Niño, South cotabato.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The researcher envisioned that the findings of this proposed study are significant

and useful to the selected farmers in the province of South Cotabato. This Study hopes

to help the famers to know the basic usage, troubleshooting and the basic maintenance

of the rotor machine.

Farmers. This study can help the farmers to understand and will respond

positively to everyone who will ask them about rotor machines. In this state no farmers

will left behind with regards the basic knowledge of the rotor machine. In terms of the

effects of the rotor machine, the farmers will automatically respond positively.

Philippine economy. The result of the study will help the Philippine economy

increases. The more knowledgeable the farmers are, the more the economy increases,

because the farmers will be on top to dominate the land, then no one will starve, then

businesses will prosper, then the economy will become prosperous too.

Definition of terms

The following terms are defined conceptually and operationally for clear

understanding of this study.

Machines – a mechanically, electrically, or electronically operated device for

performing a task. A constructed thing whether material or immaterial.

Rotor – it is also known as rotary tillers, this machines are used for both primary

and secondary tillage for cultivating the soil.

Farming – the activity or business of growing crops and raising livestock. The act

or process of working the ground, planting seeds, and growing edible plants.

Economy – The general sense of economy is careful management of resources

such as money and materials. The system of production and distribution and

consumption

Troubleshooting – refers to a systematic approach to solving a problem. The

goal of troubleshooting is to determine why something does not work as expected and

explain how to resolve the problem. The first step in the troubleshooting process is to

describe the problem completely.

Maintenance – the process of maintaining or preserving someone or something,

or the state of being maintained.

Tillage – the preparation of land for growing crops.

Scope and Delimitation

The farming maybe easy work for somebody or sometime people were belittled

of farming as a job, but actually it is the hardest job a man can have. Different strategies

and techniques have made by many farmers just to maintain their crops in healthiest

way they can. Farmers also want to preserve the machines they used in their farming

just to produce a healthier crop, so that it can supply the needs of every individual in

terms of food. The rotor or rotary tiller is a big help for every farmers.

This study will conducted on the second semester of the school year 2023-2024.

The respondents will be the selected farmers at the selected places in South Cotabato.

The locale of the study are limited to the selected farmers in Norala, Surallah and Santo

Niño, South Cotabato. The respondents of the study were selected using the stratified

random sampling.
