The Celtic Tiger: A

Sociological and
Post-colonial Look
What is the Celtic Tiger?

The Celtic Tiger refers to the period

of rapid economic growth in Ireland
from the mid-1990s to the late 2000s,
fuelled by foreign direct investment.
This economic boom transformed
Ireland from one of Europe's poorest
countries to one of the top global
economies. The Irish economy grew
significantly during this time, with an
average annual growth rate of 9.4%
between 1995 and 2000. The Celtic
Tiger resulted in a property bubble
that laid the foundation for the
economic recession of 2008.
