PRESENTATION CONTENT

1. INTRODUCTON
- Magnetic Resonance Imaging ( MRI )
+ Create a strong magnetic field inside the body and
show a slide of the body on computer , used for
diagnostics , give the detail of the medical condition
- Computed Tomography ( CT )
+ The technique combines computers and X-rays to
create images of the body's organs, bones, and
tissues.
2. FUNCTION
MRI
- Help the doctors diagnose what kind of disease
that the patient have
- Some aspects are able to be diagnosed by MRI
+ Nerve ( stroke , accidentally brain injury, cancer, etc )
+ Cardiology ( level of injury , shape , etc )
+ In addition to the brain, cardiology , MRI can be
able to diagnose other aspect ( lung , liver , bone ,etc )
CT
+ Show soft tissues, blood vessels and bones in
different parts of the body (head, shoulders, spine,
heart, abdomen, knees, chest)
+ Capture images for the purpose of detecting
injuries inside the body
3. THE DIFFERENCES
CT
- CT captures the pictures by X-Ray – a harmful
invisible ray of light and it could go throw some
obstructions if it was strong enough
- Due to the X-Ray , computed tomography can
cancer , even radiation contamination
MRI
- MRI captures the pictures by magnetic resonance
( uses magnetic field )
- Harmless and uses for evaluate the level of injuries
or diagnostic
WHEN SHOULD WE USE MRI OR CT
- Ask the question
Answers :
+ As everyone knows , computed tomography is a
little harmful for your health , so the doctors would
use it when they knew you definitely have the
injuries and need to be cured
+ If the doctors suspect that you have injuries or
disease , they will use MRI instead of CT because it is
harmless
+ Understand easily , MRI is used for diagnostic the
injuries or disease and CT is used in the situation that
the doctor has already known you have the injuries
or disease.
4. HISTORY:
MRI
+ 1946, Felix Bloch and Edward Purcell won the
Nobel Prize in Physics for discovery of nuclear
magnetic resonance (NMR)
+ 1973, Paul Lauterbur developed the first 2D MRI
+ On July 3 1977, Peter Mansfield developed 3D MRI
CT
+ 1972, Godfrey Hounsfield and Allan Cormack
developed the CT
+ The first CT technique was called the "EMI scan" as
it was developed by the company EMI in the United
Kingdom.
+ The early CT machines were slow and had poor
image quality
5. FUTURE
+ Although both of it have their advantages and
disadvantages, but in the future we can invent and
create a machine that combines the benefits of MRI
(diagnosis) and the ability to investigate diseases
(like CT) without causing harm.
+ By combining the advantages of both machines
into one, it would greatly simplify the treatment
process.
