Dreams Deferred
by
Langston Hughes
What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it dry up
like a raisin in the sun?
DREAMS Or fester like a sore—
And then run?
DEFERRED Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over—
By like a syrupy sweet?
Langston Hughes Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load.
Or does it explode?
Imagine yourself living in
1950’s when racial
discrimination is more
dominant. What will you do in
order for your dreams not to
be deferred
