1. GENERAL INFORMATION
1.1. INTRODUCTION
This manual provides instructions for the installation of the on-engine air filter for GE diesel engines.
1.2. SAFETY INFORMATION
Safety precautions, which must be observed when working on the on-engine air filter, may appear throughout
this publication. WARNINGS indicate the potential for personal injury, and CAUTIONS indicate the potential for
equipment damage.

The on engine air filter is designed to prevent ingestion of foreign material into the turbocharger and engine.

5. INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

WARNING: To prevent potential equipment damage, ensure that the diesel engine cannot be started before be-
ginning to remove or install the on-engine air filter. Open all related switches or circuit breakers for the battery,

fuel pump, or other switches, circuit breakers, or controls that would initiate the engine start sequence. Apply a

warning tag to the engine start control panel per facility procedures identifying that the engine is locked down
and should not be started.

5.1. INSTALLING THE AIR FILTER

Refer to Figure 1 Install the 24 in. (610 mm.) air filter assembly as follows:

1. Install two alignment studs in the 9 and 3 o’clock bolt holes in the air inlet casing of the turbocharger ( Figure
in Pro
2 ).

2. Slide the adapter plate over the alignment studs.

3. Slide the air filter housing over the alignment studs.

4. Install six bolts and washers using the Loctite provided in the remaining six holes and hand tighten.
5. Remove alignment studs from the 9 and 3 o’clock bolt holes in the air inlet and install the remaining bolts
and washers using the Loctite provided. Hand tighten.
6. Torque the eight bolts in the order shown in Figure 3 to 85 ft-lbs +/- 5 ft-lbs (115 Nm. +/- 7 Nm.)
7. Slide the air filter inlet cone through the air filter housing on the air inlet of the turbocharger and tighten the
nut and washer provided on the air filter housing. Torque the nuts to 10 ft-lbs +/- 2 ft-lbs (13.5 Nm. +/- 2.7
Nm.)

8. Assemble the filter element on the filter housing and attach filter using the hex nut and narrow washer
provided. Torque to 30 ft-lbs (40.7 Nm.).
9. Install pressure differential indicator on the fitting provided on the filter lid.
