Metals and acids: the equations

Magnesium reacts with hydrochloric acid to make hydrogen gas and a solution
of magnesium chloride. Magnesium chloride is a salt. Salts are compounds that
contain metal atoms.
Different acids react with magnesium to make different salts:
• Hydrochloric acid makes magnesium chloride
• Sulfuric acid makes magnesium sulfate
• Nitric acid makes magnesium nitrate

Complete the word equations below.

1. magnesium + hydrochloric acid + magnesium chloride

2. zinc + hydrochloric acid +

3. magnesium + sulfuric acid hydrogen + magnesium

4. zinc + nitric acid +

5. zinc + acid + sulfate

6. magnesium + nitric acid +

7. lead + hydrochloric acid +

8. lead + acid + nitrate
