Introduction

• Yoga means union – union with oneself (body, mind and


spirit), with whole humanity, with nature and with the
supreme spirit.
• It is an art of living, with positive attitude and cheerfulness.
• To attain this harmony and unity one should practice yoga
with mindfulness.

• Memory is the capacity to retain and recall information about past
and present incidents.
• In Sanskrit, the word ‘Memory’ is called ‘Smriti’.
The five activities of the mind are
▪ comprehension
▪ misapprehension
▪ imagination
▪ deep sleep
▪ memory
Objectives

This study was aimed to review scientific literature


related to yoga practice for memory enhancement.
Methodology

• This study was a literature based survey done using Hatha Yoga
Pradeepika, journal papers on yoga and other e-papers.
• Duration- 03 months
• All other literature sources were search explored for which
Yogasana are enhance memory.
• The collected data was analysed as simple percentages.

Conclusion

Although 13.33% of Asana mentioned in Hathayoga Pradeepika were


enhance the memory power including Padmasana and Dhanurasana, the
Asana which are not mentioned in Hatha Yoga Pradeepika (Bujangasana,
Sarvangasana, Pashchimoththanasana, Padahasthasana, Bakasana,
Thadasana and Halasana) also important in enhancing memory. There for
these Asana must be advised for the people who need memory
enhancement.
