VERIFICATION PROCESS
product:
BURNING TEST
Leave the unit connected to its nominal mains voltage during 24 hours.
Preliminary:
Connect the tester probes between the mains ground contact and the unit’s backside main ground test
point. When applying a 10A current, verify that the ground impedance is lower than 0’1Ω.
Connect the electrical insulation tester probes between the mains outlet ground contact and both shorted
mains input poles.
Adjust the tester’s current limit down to 10mA.
Apply 1500Vac during 5 seconds.
The unit’s insulation should be able to resist this voltage, without generating spurious sparks or a
sparkover effect, and the tester may not detect any malfunction.
CAUTION: Do not disconnect nor touch the test probes until the test has finished completely!
QUALITY CONTROL
All mechanical parts should be visually revised, in order to detect scratches on the unit's painting; all
screws should be on their place, correctly tight and unmarked. Check out the unit's general presentation.
Input Sensitivities:
LINE 0dB
PHONO -40dB
MICRO -50dB
FX RETURN 0dB
Output Levels:
REC 0dB
MASTER (BAL.) 0dB/+6dB*
MASTER (RCA) 0dB/+6dB*
BOOTH (RCA) 0dB/+6dB*
FX SEND 0dB
HEADPHONES 200mW @ 200Ω
* Internally configurable.
Note: The manipulation of any group of control knobs, or the use of any of the mixing console functions
such as the input selection switches, FX sends, signal routings, etc may not affect the mixer’s output
sound quality, as the signal has to be free from hiss, hum, scratch or switch noise. Only the PRE-POST
selection switch operation may produce a slight switching noise while listening music. Therefore it is
strongly recommended to read the complete user’s guide and this verification procedure manual before
starting the console testing, in order to avoid possible confusions when trying to understand the test
results.
When in this manual the command “verify the potentiometer sweep” is used, it is intended that the
technician turns the tested potentiometer or turnknob completely from one side to the other, checking
that this operation does not affect the output signal quality, as the output signal should remain free from
scratch noise, and also that when a level control is turned to its minimum level, the output signal is
completely damped and disappears (no crosstalk).
• Connect a set of headphones with an input impedance between 200 and 600Ω, using the
unit’s front panel JACK type outlet.
• Press the PFL pushbutton, and check that now the music is heard through the headphones,
as the knob remains lit. Also the corresponding indicating LED should appear lit (yellow).
• Turn the SELECT control knob to the right, (MIX).
• The signal levels should be the same as the checked in the previous testing steps.
• Verify the headphones LEVEL control knob’s sweep.
• Slide down the channel FADER potentiometer, and check that the music disappears both
from the headphones and the unit’s output. Return the channel fader to its maximum level
(10).
• Turn the SELECT potentiometer back to its left position, (PFL).
• Without any input signal, but with a loaded input (using a pick-up head or a resistive 600Ω
load impedance) the output signal should be free from hum (mains) or blow noise.
• When playing music, check the RIAA filter response, as a good balance between bass and
high tones is achieved. Verify also that when applying input signal from a CD through the
nearby RCA-type LINE input, no crosstalk occurs between both input paths (LINE and/or
PHONO), in order to perfectly detect this, proceed applying music signal to only the LINE
input.
• Connect a PHANTOM powered microphone into the rear panel XLR-type input.
• Speak into the microphone, checking the good sound quality.
• Verify the common mode rejection ratio (output signal free from hum, hiss, obtaining a totally
clear sound). In order to completely verify this point, it is useful to connect the microphone to
the mixing console through a 10 meter long connection cable.
• Apply input signal only through LINE INPUT 1’s left channel (L).
• Check that only the left channels of the mixer outputs carry audio signal.
• Press the L+R pushbutton and verify that the output signal becomes the same on both L and
R channels, but the signal level decreases in 6dB. This command, however, should only
apply to the MASTER and BOOTH outputs.
• The L+R pushbutton and the indicating LED (yellow) should remain lit..
• The MIX signal bus is not affected by this function, so the main VU-meter and the REC
outputs should keep their L and R channels independent, as they keep in normal stereo
mode..
• Release the L+R function button.
• Check the MASTER potentiometer sweep, and also the main BAL balance function.
• Check also the resting unit’s output connections REC, MASTER (RCA type) and BOOTH..
• Check the BOOTH function potentiometer sweep and function.
XFADER
• FADER SHAPE. This control allows to configure the FADER1, FADER2 and FADER3
potentiometer response curve, making them to increase strongly the audio signal just at the
start of the potentiometer sweep (HARD – right position), or making the potentiometer to modify
the signal level just at the end of its sweep (SOFT – left position). Check both adjustments.
• REVERSE. When REVERSE is selected, the FADER function is inverted.
Note: in order to check the unit’s signal paths, check the correspondence between the mixer’s L and R
channels at the input and output. Moreover, the PFL pushbuttons should remain lit when their function
is selected, which also happens when selecting the L+R and FX PFL functions.
