Background of the company


 Big Basket is one of the largest online grocery super market in India. It was founded in 2011 by
Hari Menon, VS Sudhakar, V S Ramesh, Vipul Parekh and Abhinay choudari. It has its
headquarters in Bengaluru. It operates in more than 30 cities in India.

Company profile
 In March 2019, BigBasket raised US$150 million in investment from Mirae Asset, Alibaba
Group and CDC Group giving the company a valuation of over US$1 billion.

 In March 2020, they acquired micro-delivery firm, DailyNinja. As of June 2020, it was reported
that BigBasket had hit the annualized gross sale run rate of US$1 billion and began selling about
18,000 products from over 300,000 orders received daily.

 In February 2021, the Tata Group acquired a 64.3% stake in BigBasket for around ₹9,500
crore (US$1.2 billion).

in a warehouse.

Choudhari, and V S Ramesh. The founders had their first brush with e-commerce back in 1999
when they launched an online store, Fabmart.com, to sell books, toys, and glossaryonline.

from Rs 3,794 crore in the previous fiscal year (FY20). Revenue from the wholesale of grocery
and other household products constitutes 97.5% of the company’s total operating revenue.

Conclusion
Bigbasket had originally planned to expand to 50 cities in total but has now scaled that back to the 25
it currently operates in. “Their expansion has stopped now. They are now not going to expand
anymore for some time to come. Now, their whole thing is to go deep into these cities and start
making each city work well.
