FROM
OUR CONVENORS
As the conveners of Clash of Certitude organized by The Debating Society of DITU, our
focus with this competition is to serve as a platform for showcasing not only mastery of
rhetoric and argumentation but also our commitment to critical thinking achieved only
through thorough research skills. As we embark on this journey, let us remember the
essence of debate: to engage in rigorous discourse, to challenge perspectives, and to foster a
deeper understanding of the world around us.

Envisioned as more than a mere forum for accolades, the Debating Society orchestrates a
symphony of intellect. "Clash of Certitude" is an annual inter-university debate competition
that transcends mere discourse to become a battlefield of certitudes with India's finest
debaters not armed with weapons but with the arsenal of their nuanced articulation
navigating through the tumultuous terrain of contemporary issues. It stands as a testament
to the transformative power of debate, where adversaries become allies in the pursuit of
truth, and where the clash of opinions heralds not discord, but harmony in the symphony of
human intellect.

With a renewed fervor and an unwavering commitment, let us seize this opportunity to shed
light on topics that remain shrouded in general oblivion. May each exchange be
characterized by respect, integrity, and a relentless pursuit of truth. All the very best to all
participants!

ABOUT
TOPIC
"This house believes that the implementation of the National Register of Citizens is necessary to
address illegal immigration, and it does not pose a threat to citizenship rights."

In the current global scenarios, countries like the Poland refusing to take in any refugees
under a European Union relocation plan, citing security concerns. The Australian
government introducing a policy of mandatory detention for all asylum seekers arriving via
seaways. Or world powers like USA banning a single faction of refugees belonging to single
religion into their country and Russia sending refugees in Finland after Finland joined
NATO as defense strategy. Joining this movement is India with its Citizenship Amendment
Act. Various NRCs provide a comprehensive database of citizens, distinguishing them from
illegal immigrants. By accurately identifying individuals who are not citizens, the NRC aids
in maintaining national security and sovereignty. Illegal immigration poses various
challenges, including resource strain, social unrest, and potential security risks. It is clear
that every nation has decided to exercise its power to treat the refugees in their best
interests, as is the right for every security council of all Nations.

But the opposition suggests that these acts against refugees and control over citizenship
rights are completely unfair and unhumanitarian. Because how can denying the victims of
war, impoverishment, poverty, and starvation a simple refuge be against the moral code of
any Nation? Are countries deporting the families of the needed and denying the needy a
land to stand on for the best interests of its citizen or to safeguard its own virtue of interests?
World powers that lead the globe and preach peace by having the world’s largest artillery to
defend the same peace deny the few unfortunates seeking shelter considering those arm-less
a threat? Nations being part of NATO peace treaty and yet denying shelter to one specific
religious faction shelter in their desperate times of need, the victims of Palestine-Gaza,
Ukraine-Russia wars. Various forms of NRCs have the potential to stoke tensions and
disrupt social harmony by fostering suspicion and discrimination based on ethnicity or
religion as well!

At the end of the day, it is imperative to discuss and debate the issue of which the lives of
billions hang by the thread.
