C. MATERIALS:

 whiteboard
marker
 chalk How do we describe an Absolute Value
 visual aids of a number?

 It is the distance of a number

D. METHOD: from zero.
4A’s Approach  The distance itself is always
POSITIVE.
 The absolute value of a number
E. VALUES: n is written as |nl.
Respect, Examples:
Integrity,
Cooperation  |7|=7
 |20|=20
 |0|=0
 |-10|=10
 |-115|=115
F. SKILLS:  |-23|=23
Analytical skills,
logical skills, and
arithmetic skills ADDITION OF INTEGERS

A. Addition of Integers with the

same sign.

1. The sum of two positive integers is

always positive.

Examples:

 6+13=19
 500+25=525
 34+8=42

2. The sum of two negative integers is

always negative.

Examples:

 (-9)+(-11)= -20
 (-6)+(-9)= -15
 (-3)+(-7)= -10

B. Steps in Adding Integers with

Different Signs.
If the integer have different signs, subtract
the integers and copy the sign of the integer
with greater absolute value.
Examples:
 (-6)+(15)= 9
 (4)+(-9)= -5
 (-3)+(18)=15

C. Examples with more than two

addends.

 (-8)+ 6 + 9 = 7
 (-11)+6+(-4)= -9
 (-25)+9+6+(-3)= -13

C. ABSTRACTION

The teacher will ask students to

answer the questions:

1. Based from the discussion we had, If

both signs are positive, what are we
going to do? (ADD THEM UP AND
COPY THE SIGN)
2. How about if both signs are
negative, what we’ll do? (ADD THEM
UP AND COPY THE SIGN)
3.How about if the signs are different,
what are we going to do? (YOU MUST
SUBTRACT AND COPY THE SIGN
OF THE GREATER ABSOLUTE
VALUE)

D. APPLICATION
The teacher will have game called
“Pass and Roll the Ball”.
Mechanics:
• The teacher will provide a ball to the
students.
• The student must pass the ball in any
direction while the music is playing.
• When the music stops, the student
holding the ball must perform the
indicated operation.

Let’s try!
1. -15 + 10 -15 =
2. -12 + 19 + -8 + 4 =
3. -9 + -2 + 12 + 15 =
4. 6 + 12 + -17 =
5. 14 + -12 + 7 + 18 =
6. 18 + 10 + 17 + -9 =
7. 3 + -19 + 14 + -10 =
8. 3 + -8=
9. -5 + -11 =
10. -14 + -10 + -2 =
